Is Joe Flacco a top ten QB?

  • I say no

  • I go back and forth.

I say no at first, but then he goes and does something like win a Super Bowl the way he did, and then I change my mind.

Neither have I and when you look at his numbers he isn't a top 10 QB, but he does win. Its crazy the money he is going to get. No way the guy deserves elite QB money.

He manages a game pretty well, but I guess a professional should.

What do you think of Eli if you don't mind me asking. Advanced metrics say this was one of the best seasons of his career and that he was the 9th best QB this year (his best ever was 8th in 08/11, worst 40th in 07). Never better than 8th.

However, he's got more rings than all of the guys people say are definitely elite, save Brady (Peyton, Brees and Rodgers).

Eli is top 10 for me, but not elite or even close to the top 4 guys. He has put up better numbers than Flacco and won more SBs.

  • Is he a sexy top ten? No. Is he a top ten? Definitely. You have to take into consideration that he hasn't had the greatest receivers throughout his career. He finally has some solid weapons in Torrey Smith, Boldin, Jones and Pita. Dixon shows up occasionally. He did tonight. Boldin had an incredible playoff run this year and showed up big time, but ever since he's been in Bmore he's been on the older half of his career.

Also, take into consideration that for Flaccos first few seasons the Ravens were a smashmouth run first team. They really didn't start passing the ball tough until last year and more so this year. Boldin is most likely on his way out. The Ravens need to get another elite WR to go along with Torrey Smith and that will help Flacco out tremendously. I guarantee if Flacco had Julio Jones and Roddy White as his receivers he have monster numbers.

I'm a huge Raven fan and watch every game and Joe takes alot of slack, but alot of it is unwarranted. Yes, he is inconsistent, but so are his receivers. Alot of the times Joe took heat when in reality the receivers weren't running good routes or getting seperation. Also, another huge thing is Cam Cameron was a terrible OC and he and Joe did not get along either. Joes production and consistency went way up when Caldwell took over as OC.

Also, Caldwell calls alot more of a balanced attack and was able to open up the passing game by knowing when to pass and when to run. Cameron sucked! Plain and simple. Biggest thing is Flacco is a winner. He's has the most wins out of any QB during his career. More then the big names ie Manning, Brady, Rogers. He has a better playoff record then the "elite" except for Brady I think.

He had a monster playoff run this season. He strolled into Denver and beat thr mighty Manning at his house and then rolled into New England and beat Brady(again) in their backyard. Not to mention he beat Andrew Luck in the first round. He also destroyed Eli the first week Caldwell became OC. No QB was better then him in the playoffs. None. Sure some can argue Kampernick was better, but who has the ring? Kampernick couldn't get it done in the final minutes and Flacco is actually quite good in the two minute drill. One of the best actually.

He put up huge numbers, yards, tds and no interceptions in this years playoffs. He was nothing but consistent and elite in the playoffs. Like I said earlier, if the Ravens draft or pick up another elite WR in free agency and with Caldwell calling the plays and his OL doing their jobs Joe wil not just be a top ten QB, but a top 5 "elite" QB. Plus he finally proved all the haters and doubters wrong and won the big one. He has a super bowl ring. Ahhh, I think I made a valid point here. Lol.

  • He's about to be paid like it, and that will officially close the window on the ravens winning Super Bowls in the salary cap era

Right Now - Who are you going to put ahead of him after Brady, Peyton, Brees, Rogers, Rothelisburger, Eli?

  • If you are talking about inflated stats or athleticism, no he is not top 10. That said, there are not 10 QBs in the league I would tyake over Flacco if I needed to win a playoff game tomorrow. Tony Romo, Matt Shaub, Matt Ryan...heck, even Peyton Manning would have lost the SB yesterday. He isn't flashy but the guy wins when it counts. Very impressive post-season this year by Flacco. He posted a QB rating of over 117 this post season which is 3rd all-time(Rodgers posted a 122 in 2010).

    bamabum5

  • When he was on point, they won a lot of games, I'd say yes.

  • Brady, P. Manning, Rodgers, Brees are tier 1 elite.
    Eli is 5th.
Then comes Roethlisberger and Flacco IMO.

After that, no one is proven and you start to bring some of the rookies and second year guys into the picture.

It is hard to argue with 58% completion, 1140 yards, 11 TDs, 0 interceptions, 1 fumble in the post-season.

    purple_rein

  • hard to argue that he isnt

the guy wins playoff games every year and made it to the super bowl

hes not flashy but thats because he doesnt have to be with the ravens D and their running game

but he proved when they played the patriots that when he needs to pass, he can light people up

  • Well you could have Matt Ryan and his statistically better offense and defense.

Or you could have Joe Flacco who does nothing but win when it matters most.

Flacco led his team to a superbowl. That automatically puts him ahead of all the QBs that have never won it all.

Can we cool this nothing but win when it matters most talk? This was his fifth trip to the playoffs and first trip to the Super Bowl. In those other 4 years he lost when it mattered most.

  • Peyton
    Brady
    Brees
    Rodgers
    Roethlisberger
    Eli
    Flacco
    Matt Ryan
Maybe some of the young guys after that (Kaepernick, RG3, Luck, etc) but its hard to say honestly.

I agree with the notion that quality of play should also be a factor in determining someone's value. That said, Flacco has played well the last 2 seasons during their playoff runs. He should have been in the SB last year but Lee Evans dropped the pass. Flacco has outplayed Brady each of their last 2 meetings in the post season. This is one of the best runs for a QB in the post season ever. The question remains will it translate to big numbers in the coming seasons.

I think I read where he has the most wins by any QB in their first 5 seasons in the league(63 I think it is). The guy does win if nothing else. I know people will point to the defense and run game but the Ravens relied on Flacco this year more than they did the defense and run game. Ray Rice had his worst season since coming into the league and the defense ranked 17th in the NFL. Flacco deserves more respect than he gets.

He did not lose last year in NE.

He has won a playoff win in every single year he has been in the playoffs. Has one of the losses been his fault? Yes one of them has been.
He, statistically, is one of the best postseason QBs in NFL history, and he's only been in the league 5 years.

He has no signs of slowing down soon.
