Is Johnny Football an NFL quality starting QB?

  • Serious question that I haven't seen asked on here. (Don't know how this thread hasn't been made yet).. Is he too small or do you guys think he'll be starter quality? Ask yourself this, would you want him starting for your NFL team?

I honestly don't know the answer and I'm not sure all that dancing will work in the NFL but the kid can throw accurately but I'm not sure how strong his arm is and if he can 3 step/5 step drop/pass consistently.

He and his family sure do think he'll be a good NFL player and they seem a little too money hungry for my liking.. The stuff about him coining "Johnny Football" and taking money from the T-shirt guys and this most recent ordeal of them getting insurance for him. (Not flaming, facts are facts).

Manziel confirmed on Tuesday that his family is in the process of securing an insurance policy in case an injury were to prevent him from playing pro football.

"We're currently in the process of doing that," Manziel said after the Aggies' second practice of the spring. "It's just a precaution. I think there's a lot of players who have done it in the past and you never know what could happen. Football is a dangerous sport, so you kind of have to make sure that you take a precaution in that regard."

----Anyways, do you guys think he'll be a good NFL player?

  • From what I have seen so far ? no, not even close

He might develop into one but he is damn small and doesn't have a cannon at all

His NFL projection won't be a good one imo

Correct, this will no doubt be his biggest knock

And of course he is only 6'0" maybe and a 190 or 200.... he might get a little bigger but his hype is just dumb at this point

He won the Heisman as a freshman, very cool no doubt... and I truly believe he deserved it.... but it means literally nothing in terms of his next level talent

  • Not sure the purpose of bringing up the insurance part of this either, most NFL prospects that have a chance of.going high do.

His family and himself obviously think he's going to be a high draft pick with the insurance.. So I was seeing if the board agreed.. Figured someone would nitpick and complain about that, as usual.

You don't need to be a high draft pick to get an insurance policy fwiw, McGahee got one and he was rumored of going pretty late in his day

It is a smart business decision . Odds are good a freshman heisman winner will least make it to NFL

Yeah.. I know Clowney just got a 5 Million Dollar insurance.. It's just weird to me, I dunno.

EDIT: I hope people don't take that part of my post the wrong way.. I'm honestly not well versed at all on the insurance for a College player, especially a Sophomore.

No, and he is becoming more of a D-bag than Cam Newton. I thought it was impossible. I actually think it is really cool that Cam went back to school during the off season.

  • anyone remember the Brasky QB that could run well and won a Heisman? Eric Crouch part two... probably more talent but I see similarities in them...

  • He definitely won't get 4-5 seconds in the pocket, in the NFL.

  • Whole lot of hate ITT. The more success Russell Wilson has, the better for Johnny. He's a lot more accurate than people give him credit for and while he doesn't have a cannon, he can make all of the throws. His only real knock is his size.

lol Russell Wilson pisses on Maziel in the arm strength department

    Its not even close

Way better all around athlete too, oh and a lot more intelligent

Lolz at saying he doesn't have a cannon but can make all the throws... you realize that makes zero sense right ?

I love the whole " if one guy plays well it helps another guy " .... might be the dumbest logic ever

Hate? So an obvious homer (TAMU fan) says one thing while literally EVERYONE else says something different.. What does that normally mean?

You do realize that Brees doesn't truly have a cannon like Vick right? He has success because of his accuracy and smarts. Also, come combine time, I'm sure you'll be suprised at how similar Manziel is to Wilson.

Also, my point about Wilson having success helps Manziel is because Wilson is breaking the notion that short and athletic QB's can't have success in the NFL.

Did I say Manziel would be a top 5 pick? No, but he could easily be a starter like Wilson. He's faster and has a better arm than people give him credit for. He's only going to improve in his understanding of the game and his accuracy will improve as well. Statistically, he may not put up the same kind of year this season but he should show improvement overall as a QB.

    Curious as well

Really depends. Insurance companies insure for the value of something. Therefore they have to project where he would be picked and insure him accordingly. Those policies are not simple. An injury would have to prevent him from ever playing in the NFL. If he is injured, rehabs and finally gets his shot at the NFL, then doesn't make it, no insurance.

I don't think you realize how good Wilson is in the NFL.. To say he could EASILY be a starter like Wilson is homerism at it's finest. I don't see it.. Agree to disagree bud

Let me rephrase that, easily has the potential to be an NFL starting QB one day, better?

I dunno.. He just looks so short and skinny... Brees and Wilson are a lot more thick than Johnny.. Johnny looks like a high school kid and I just don't see it but time will tell.
