  • I'm interested to see. He seems to have some things going against him (e.g. height), but I don't think you can write him off at all at this point. Especially with the read option appearing more and more in the NFL.

    You do realize that Brees doesn't truly have a cannon like Vick right? He has success because of his accuracy and smarts. Also, come combine time, I'm sure you'll be suprised at how similar Manziel is to Wilson.

    Also, my point about Wilson having success helps Manziel is because Wilson is breaking the notion that short and athletic QB's can't have success in the NFL.

    You don't need to be a high draft pick to get an insurance policy fwiw, McGahee got one and he was rumored of going pretty late in his day

    to qualify under the NCAA program you have to be projected in the first 3 rounds.. he could of course go through a third party though.

  • Measurables is one of the most "overrated" components of evaluating prospects. During the 2012 Senior Bowl I posted on BOL that I'd draft Russell Wilson if I were the Dolphins in the 1st Round instead of Ryan Tannehill.

    Typical Comments:
    -You don't know what you're talking about
    -He's way too small to play QB in the NFL.
    -Wilson might make a team as a slot WR
    -This is the NFL....you have to be 6'2" and up

    I watch football....study film and tendencies and I value work ethic and drive and "skill" more than measureables.

    I think Manziel needs to become more of a student of the game and limit the "freestyle" plays. But the kid has the "it-factor" IMO. As long as he tempers the "big-head" and continues to prepare and learn the game.....I think he'll be a star QB in the NFL.

    Measureables.......nah.......on-field performance and the manner you accomplish it is what matters. I've been impressed with Manziel just as I was with Cam Newton at Auburn.....yet another QB that I endorsed as a future high NFL Draft Pick in early October 2010 when most folks thought he was just a running QB. Again, I posted that Cam would go top 10....probably top 5 in the draft back early during the 2010 season on BOL. Again, I was blasted by BOL as being clueless.

    I'm going with what my eyes tell me.....Manziel will be a star QB in the NFL. Again though the determining factor is whether Manziel can deal with his celebrity status.

    Tell people what they want to hear, they will like you. Tell them the actual truth...they may not.

    Well.. Johnny had 3 INTS and like 16 rushing yards against us at your stadium.. So he's not a god.

  • wow I came in this thread wondering how long it'd be until someone tried to compare him to russell wilson. Way to not let me down Aggies. Manziel is nothing like Russell Wilson other than being short. Russell has an absolute cannon and is deadly accurate. Many realize he has running threat ability but Wilson really became a pass first QB while at Wisconsin . I'm not sure Manziel is the same way.

    Additionally, here's is another fun fact many dont know. QB hand size is one of the biggest indicators for success, moreso than height. While Russell Wilson is short, he has some of the biggest hands at the QB position in the NFL. It allows him to grip the ball more securely and flick the ball with ease. I dont think Manziel has that physical trait.

    Russell WIlson has unreal intangibles as well. He can win a room in seconds, and will back it up with extremely hard work. I have never seen a player or person with the intangibles that Wilson has. Its simply underrated as hell. Manziel is more about show.
