There was a fundamental shift in ideologies between the Republican and Democratic parties in America between Lincoln's time and today. That is to say the 1865 Democratic and Republican parties do not in any way, shape, or form resemble those parties, at least ideologically speaking, today. In fact, they are quite opposite from what they used to be.

So, to answer your question, at least for me is that no modern republican is somehow slighted bc of Lincoln's place in history. He ended slavery and was the impetus to passing the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments which were probably the most important in US history.

This country will only move forward when they abolish the parties. It now has become a pissing match as to not push things through due to one party or the other not approving a bill because of merely the party that proposed it.

It's not what you're called, it's what you respond to.

Stop labeling somebody a republican or democrat and you'll see true progress for this country and the world for that matter.
