Sorry, I thought it was free for everyone.

In a nutshell it's saying that Jim Delaney's 4 team playoff proposal may be only an attempt to get Notre Dame to join the Big 10 being that you must be a conference champ to play in the playoff. It's the idea that if his proposal is adopted Notre Dame would feel the pressure of joining a league to play for a title and we all know the Big 10 wants Notre Dame bad.

According to this article, it seems like the Big 12 is in favor of the 4 best teams model. The article suggests that one of the reasons Delaney is all for this conference champ idea is because the Big 10 has only had a team in the championship game 3 times since the BCS began in 1998. This is his way of ensuring his team has a place in the title game or semi final.

Chip Brown closes with this statement, "One thing I do know is Jim Delany and the Big Ten have lots of reasons for pushing their agenda as it pertains to a four-team playoff - and most of those reasons help the Big Ten more than they help college football or its fans."

Most of the article is more opinion than anything but he still makes points that make sense.

Damn. See I knew this was going to happen. ND is a cash cow and everyone wants a piece of the pie. This is their way of making that happen. Just didn't see it coming from this angle.
    Well played Delaney...well played.

Do you think that Delany isn't going to do what's best for his conference? Sorry, but I highly doubt he bows to the SEC and their demands.

No I don't. Each conference has their own motives. The article is more opinion than anything, but has some valid points. But to propose an idea solely to get another team to join your conference. That's crazy. I'm taking the article with a grain of salt.

  • In the end, I think the Big 12, Pac 12, and SEC will favor the Top 4 teams while the Big East, Big 10, and ACC will favor the Top 4 conference champs model. What happens if there is a split?

Also, I read somewhere that Ohio State AD Gene Smith and Michigan States AD said they thought there would be more questions and scrutiny of a 4 team playoff then the current BCS system. They question how the teams will be chosen. Could cause more havoc. I'll see if I can find the quote and link it.

  • Honestly, nothing the Big 10 does nowadays has much to do with Notre Dame. They don't want to join, so be it. Movin' on.

Must be. Why doesn't Spurrier have not even close to the same success he does with no account SC that he did with Florida? That a conspiracy to?

No answer to that one huh? Well I'll give you a hint. South Carolina sucks! And always will. Have fun being the punching bag of the SEC for years to come!
