Is SEC champ really a guarantee to NCG?

  • I saw ABC basically write in the SEC champ to the NCG. And if they are undefeated, no one can argue that.

But what about a 1 loss SEC champ? Would a 1 loss SEC champ really jump BOTH undefeated Oregon and K State teams? That just doesn't seem possible to me. The regular season games should still matter. And no matter how tough the SEC is and no matter how much they're the best and just beat up on each other, the games should still matter.

  • I mean, I think its all context. If LSU beats Alabama, Alabama wins out, and then LSU beats an undefeated Florida team in the championship game, LSU would be in. But if LSU beats Bama, Bama loses a letdown game the next week, and then LSU beats a Florida team that, say, got upset by Florida State, then it would probably be a much closer question

  • If KSU and Oregon both win out and there is no undefeated SEC team, they would play for the title IMO. The reason I say that is because Oregon would likely be #1 in both polls and KSU #2. KSU has a strong enough SOS to hold up in the computers if it came to that.

I doubt both of those teams remain unbeaten though. In fact, I think they both drop at least 1 game.

  • It would be very interesting because if lsu beats #1 Bama and then turn around and play #1 undefeated Florida team in the SEC Championship and win then they would be revenging their only lost and I could see that scenario but its the only one.

  • SEC will have the best slot but if Kansas State, ND, and Oregon all go undefeated they get in over a one loss SEC team.

    i agree with this

next month would have to unfold perfectly for SEC to be completely left out of MNC

LSU beat Bama, UF loses to FSU, UF beats bama, while 2 of KSU, ND, Oregon stay undefeated.

I say 80% chance SEC has a team in the MNC

  • The SEC champ should play in the NCG period.

    MaybeNxtYear

  • They've been given an undeserved free pass to the game for the last 7 years and that won't change anytime soon. Where have you been?

Undeserved or not, we've won the damn thing every time. That pretty much justifies it.

this. Though the one thing that could throw a wrench in all of this, is if Florida wins the sec, finishes 12-1 with a loss to a 12-1 Florida St.

most likely not, but LSU is a much better team in baton rouge than on the road, and I am still not sold on McCarron.

I'm one of the biggest McCarron haters (ask anyone on BOL), but it's getting to the point where you just can't question him anymore. His performance was one of the biggest reasons behind the dominance in the NC game, and he still hasn't thrown a pick this year. He's a damn good QB.

has not thrown a pick, but seems overly conservative. The epitome of a QB who won't lose a game, but not playing to win it either, but that seems to be by design. He played well in the mnc game last year, but LSU is going to force AJ to win it, and doing it in the red stick is not the same as doing it on a neutral field.

New Orleans isn't exactly neutral, but OK. Teams stack the box and force AJ to win it quite frequently (don't you think that's EVERY team's strategy??). I'm not saying the guy is going to be a great pro or that he deserves Heisman hype, but he has proven that he can step up when he's needed.

    n the bo

You can still run on most teams who keep 8 in the box. Will be tough sledding vs LSU, though on the flipside LSU is going to have an extremely tough time moving the ball vs Bama.

Yeah I think it ends up being a 17-10 Alabama win.
