Is Saban going back to the NFL?

  • I keep seeing a scroll about Saban and somewhere in Ohio go by during these bowl games. $$ talks with $aban. shrug

  • Who had an hour? I should have bet longer. Man that took too long for a Saban NFL thread.

Have there been moar? I didn't see any on the first page, thought it was free game. Can't rely on tsearchfunction here.

Anyway, some team is firing everyone. He follows the $$, probably wants to give it another shot.

  • He has been linked to the Browns but I'm not sure on it at all after hearing Dr. Echols on Finebaum. He's a friend of Saban's and he basically said that it's a bad fit and himself and all of his family loves their situation in Bama. Also read something by Peter King that said it was highly unlikely to nonexistent when it comes to leaving for the pros.

If he does get us a third natty in six years, I'll still root for the guy for what he has done for our program. I would hate to lose him, but I'm starting to think that the Browns and Saban to the pros is just not going to happen (knocking on wood)

We will all know shortly after the national championship game though.

We will give him just as much money as the Browns would.

His coaching style is also like trying to squeeze square through a round hole.

Those players in the pros won't take Saban's shit.

Edit: Also, Pete Carroll was tied to NFL teams for at least five or six years before he made the jump. His personality is a lot different than Saban's as well.

  • I heard Saban is looking for the next challenge, and will be taking over a team in the CFL. After dominating that country, he will force the NFL to bring back NFL Europe and set his sights on a new continent and a new challenge: convincing soccer fans that our football is the real football.

  • I'm actually nervous now. Just read on the bottomline that the Browns are firing both Shurmur and the GM by Monday.

Don't see Haslem doing that if he's not going to hand the HC and GM job to Saban. I just think the UT alum wants his ass out of Bama to give them somewhat of a chance to beat us.

Edit: I just hope that if Saban is at least looking to that job, that he would let Mal Moore know so that he could at least put feelers out there and have a deal with someone else as soon as Saban leaves, if that is his thinking at least.

  • I'm not praying for Saban to leave, but isn't it kind of odd Kirby Smart wasn't even mentioned for the Tennessee job? I thought that was one of his 'preferred' destinations? Did Alabama really pay a DC more than Tennessee was willing to pay a HC? Maybe I'm way off base here, but I can see a scenario where Smart signed an extension with Alabama (for less than what UT would have paid him), knowing he'd be the next HC and knowing it could happen soon.

+1 because you're gonna need it... even got me a participation point.

  • I'm not saying he does or doesn't go the NFL but it won't be for any reason that's been discussed. Any team would have to immediately make Saban the highest paid coach (even more than Payton's new contract), make him GM and give a lot of leeway. I also don't buy the challenge reason either. It wouldn't be a challenge if he has to completely change his philosophy. The process hasn't and probably won't work in the NFL.

Like RATT and others have expressed, I really wouldn't be mad if he left anyways.

I would hate losing him for sure. You still can't get mad at him for trying to give it another shot, especially after winning at the least 2 natties and more than likely 3 in a week and a half.

He's 61 and not getting any younger, so if he wanted to give it a shot, then god bless him. He would be 61 after this last one, not giving him many more opportunities to give it a go. He gives us a third natty and he will always go down as legend at Bama.

I certainly won't cry about him leaving us high and dry or anything. I really do hope that Moore knows that he is actually considering it, if he is. That way he can put out feelers. We can basically cherry pick who we want if he does go. A lot different than where we were 6-7 years ago.

    No shocker there.

Haslem wants his own guys seeing as though he came in halfway through the year. Most new owners do want to put their own stamp on things.

  • Saban has got to see what Harbaugh and Carrol are doing with the 49ers and Seahawks and got to somewhat want to try coaching in the NFL again. I could see Saban leaving, it's not like he has any ties to Bama and has dominated college football the last 4-5 years. Both Harbaugh and Carrol took teams that weren't doing well and turned them into playoff teams, I could see Saban doing the same with the Browns if he elects to go to the NFL.

  • Zero chance Saban goes back to a place where he has to compete on a level playing field.

That is something he simply can't hack and he knows it.

IMO, it would be crazy for him to try the same thing twice given his philosophy. What would be different this time?

I agree with this post completely.

Saban knows his advantage in CFB is that he out works everyone and it shows on the recruiting trail.

He won't have full control over his team in the NFL while he has it at Bama. I'll lick white dog shit if he leaves.
