Is Texas a Blue blood?

  • Gary Dodson said...

While I agree with this list, I will say Texas is the closest to the outside. Teams like FSU, Miami, Florida, and LSU are right on their heels for a spot at the top.

Texas will never be replaced by any other team, if you mean someone else joins the blue bloods I would agree.
I do find it odd that you state Texas is the closest to the outside instead of other schools on the list but none of them will be removed from blue blood status either.

For all the Notre Dame hate, you cannot deny they will always be a blue blood. You can joke about how talent goes there and never develops but talent goes there and it will never stop.

Just like all the other blue bloods, they will climb their way back up.

It is a joke to me that Texas is even in question.

holy hell. lsu has damn near ZERO history until the last 5 years. they're a badass program now, but they weren't shlt before saban showed up.

  • This is a dumb thread. I hate the longhorns, but they have the richest AD in the country.

I wasn't trying to say they'd be replaced, rather they're just last on the list and not so far off from those other teams.

I absolutely despise ND but nobody can question that they're among the elite in college football history. The last 20 years don't back it up but their titles, wins, All-Americans do.

I agree with you on that and I'm not trying to make the case of LSU vs Texas. But I don't think you can deny that LSU is making a great case to be among the college football elite. 3 national titles, 1 Heisman, double digit conference titles, and tons of NFL players.

  • I don't understand why Longhorns football is broken.

    They really have no excuse.

Probably need Saban to come in and fix it.

    Certainly could afford it.

Again, there is absolutely no excuse.

Miami has the excuse of being poor.

Notre Dame has a laundry list of excuses: region sucks, weather sucks, girls are ugly, etc.

    I could go on.

The problem for Texas is that none of these excuses exist and yet they still suck.

You have all the money and can buy whatever cool athletics related crap there is. You can get virtually any Texas kid you want. You can afford to pay your coaches whatever they want. You're in a nice region with nice weather and nice girls. You have a nice campus. You have a nice on-campus stadium. You have a shit ton of fan support.

I mean seriously, what's the excuse?

You do realize we had the most wins of any team in a BCS conference of the last decade (2000-2009) with 110 wins tied with OU. Only Boise had more with 112. We also had the highest winning percentage of the last decade of BCS conference teams. Again, only Boise was better.

Kind of a grammar point, but you can't really say you have the best whatever, and then turn around and say someone is better. That makes you second best.

Like saying LSU was the best team in the country last year. Except Alabama, they were better.

pay attention, junior. there's a distinction between bcs teams and boise state.

15 years has nothing to do with Blue Blood status..

Technically there is no such thing as a "BCS conference", there are only "BCS automatic qualifiers".

Don't act like a woman and take things out of context.

    I'm talking about great seasons.

With all the crap Texas has going for them do you really want to throw out a stat that compares your level of greatness to Miami and so many others.

With everything that I listed, you think being able to say that you win more games then you lose is acceptable?

Is that what all that money buys you? We win more than we lose?

When the only people who can remember your last national title are all older than 35 you have a problem.

    Yes.

    Texas
    Oklahoma
    Nebraska
    Ohio State
    Michigan
    USC
    Alabama
    Notre Dame

    Those are the blue bloods.

Is PSU in there or are we not allowed to be considered anymore? Serious question. I always thought of PSU as a top 10 program historically. Am I right or way off base?

PS for me Texas is a blue blood. Just kind of always assumed it.

Biggest knock against Penn State is only two claimed national championships. Texas is lowest on the list with 4. I would say Penn State was on the bubble, with a more legit claim than Auburn.

I also thing this "blue-blood" nonsense is just a way of helping people on this forum feel superior to others, and my school's on the list.

Texas is absolutely the biggest underachiever on the list relative to their incredible resources.

  • There are lies, damn lies, and statistics.

Those win/losses do not tell the whole story. How many of those wins were vs lower level cupcakes? How many of those wins happened outside their region/conference? In the case of the SWC/SEC, because of segregation, many of the powerful programs of their time, would/could not play you.

Before Michigan fans get their panties in a wad...I was in no way referring to you in my post.
