Is Wal Mart transitioning from an oligapic market?

  • It sounds like they're a very vertically focused, top down, old ways style of company.

  • yelp if you work your ass off for 15 years you might can make some money at Walmart. if not you may make minimum wage or a dollar or 2 more than that. now we won't hire anyone full time. we can hire 3 part time people cheaper than one full time person and it makes on sense to me

  • Walmart wants to put the US out of business. They have recently signed 3 year agreements with Mexican growers, guaranteeing them the business at a price. They have told American businesses they don't want anything to do with them. They are hypocritcal business people. Walmart can and will bankrupt the American public. I can't wait until the Chinese manufacturers tell them to go eff themselves in the ass.

Walmart can destroy the US self sustainability.

  • Imagine if you could net a huge profit while at the same time treating your employees with respect and looking out for your consumers?

    Oh, that's right, you can.

It's really not Wal Mart's fault if that happens, it's the people's fault... Too stupid to realize how it works. Wal Mart is just being Wal Mart and raking in the cash.

Just a business exploiting the bottom feeders

Unfortunately I can't disagree with that. WM figured out how to steal from the poor to feed the rich.

Yes, but it's all about the "perceived value"... I think this is part of what makes me dislike the general population so much is that they are so easily tricked into wasting their money on something that is shiny (knockoff shiny). It's good for business that people are like this, but also disheartening as a human being.

It's both. Yes, people need to educate themselves and not fall prey to shady business tactics. But at the same time, we shouldn't be okay with businesses exploiting and cheating people. You can be successful and not rely on tricks and bad practices. I have higher standards for everyone.

Survival of the fittest, right? We are not in a gladiator world anymore, it's about smarts. The people that make it are the people who know how to pull strings on the masses.

    That is pretty much capitalism

I have a love/hate relationship with this because I feel like if you are able to make it to the top by outsmarting everyone, more power to you... but at the same time, it is depressing that people are so easily taken. Ideally I want everyone to step up and get some f'ing awareness, but it doesn't look like it is going to happen anytime soon.

Call me an idealist, but I will gladly sacrifice some of my personal success to make sure what I'm doing is in the best interests of my client. I get a great amount of joy and pride out of knowing I did everything I could to deliver a high quality product to them. If I ever turn into some cut throat people hating bastard, I want to be shot.

I agree with you... but let me ask you, what kind of clients do you have?

I do graphic design work (print, web, branding, etc.) for a wide range of clients, from those well versed in the industry to those who think all I do is draw pretty pictures in MS Paint. Considering the financial gain for designers isn't all that high to begin with, maybe that helps shape my view. If I was looking to make $30,000,000 a year versus $30,000 maybe my views would be different. But I hope not. I'm a people person, what can I say?

My point is, Wal Mart is going for the most common denominator, the general public... and it sucks that the general public is like that.

You want 98% saturation of the market on sales of your chinese BS? Sell some kind of chinese knockoff of what Lil Wayne and Brad Pitt are wearing to the GP.

I don't agree with it at all, I hate it, and I hate Wal Mart... and I want America to step up and realize what seems so basic.. it's hard.

    Fuzz

  • So what we're saying here is that Obama is trying to use Wal Mart as a way to bankrupt America a force some kind of one world economy that he would then rule over?

To a competitive monopoly, am I off?

You're definitely off on the wording.

    It's oligopolic instead of oligapic.
