Is it the media or the public?

  • We had a discussion about this in one of my graduate PR classes last semester and, seeing as the media and their agenda is a hot topic on tBB, I thought this might make a good thread. The discussion, which never came to an actual decision either way, was about whether or not the media (liberal, conservative, whatever your take on it is) has an agenda that they use to steer public opinion and views on certain issues OR that the media simply reflects what they consider (or what potentially is) the majority opinion and views of their viewership/readership. I heard good input from both sides of the argument but I was curious to hear what tBB had to say.

Yeah, i think that last sentence is spot on. As individuals we are pretty smart, but the media knows how gossip and certain things turn us into a herd of dumb cows. The media sets the bait and we take it everyday.

they also have us where they want us. the big companies have all the money and thus control most of our daily news feed, weather it be internet or tv, so we have little choice, unless we search for it. Like I wish more people would do.
