Many times I find it difficult to express myself properly, when communicating with auburn fans, by using the term auburn Man or auburn Gentleman from The Plains or Most Munificent Plains Tiger or Honorable War Eagler like all auburn fans prefer and sometimes demand to be labeled.
I feel that slang terms express much more sincere and heartfelt emotion when passionately discussing pressing matters such as college football.
Terms like Bammer and stupid Bammer and Gump, etc... are just some examples of the type of slang terms I am talking about. Bama fans always take these names in good spirit and are usually very gracious about not making a big deal out of them and it doesn't really seem to bother most of them.
But, over the years, I have used the term auNeck to describe the fans of auburn on a couple of different boards and they always seem to loudly screech and whine and claim it's just too harsh and mean and just plain stupid and they simply will not put up with it.
And, I don't even use the term in a negative manner, just as auNecks don't use the term stupid Bammer in a negative way. For instance, I may greet an auNeck with a phrase like:
Good Morning, auNeck,
or,
Hi there, auNeck, your team seems to be doing really good this season,
or,
I really admire the orange and blue uniforms of the auNecks, auNeck, etc...
You know, nothing mean or anything. So, just wanted to know before all the auNecks start acting all auNecky about the term if it's okay to use?

I'm not in the clique around here, as I have been actively posting only a short time, so I really have no idea what you are talking about. Is it something that is exclusive to 24/7 that you imagine everyone knows about or was it something in football news lately?

I think it does; it has a little pizazz.
In fact, it's kind of like your username, aumagorpain. The au (I notice yours is lower-case also) represents the auburn portion of the description. The Neck part is just a general catch-all meant to represent rednecks.
You know, nothing horrible and just a play on rednecks. Nothing really wrong with rednecks that I know of.
Put 'em together and you have auNecks®. Cowhumpers and Barners are so outdated and have been used to death.

Is the term auNeck acceptable?
