in fairness, john lansing smith is a good dude. he was way over his head at MSU, but he is familiar with hillbillys and arkansas, so he may do well.

He's good at cleaning up messes. Seriously. Michigan State was in disarray when JLS took over from top to bottom; inmates running the asylum, so to speak. Though it didn't translate to wins on the field, the off-field stuff was taken care of pretty well.
The other thing that people don't know/consider is that his wife was diagnosed with cancer between his 1st and 2nd season in EL. He was never fully "on the job" as coach during the rest of his tenure. Good man, but it was a bad fit.
He'll be fine for one year and he runs a similar wacky O to what Petrino did.
Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

The only positive thing he did at MSU was clean up our program. Maybe that's what Arkansas is attempting to do.
