Jeremy Pruitt, Bama's DBs coach, to FSU as DC....

  • Can't say I'm overly excited about hiring a DC that's last real DC job was for a high school on some stupid ass MTV reality show. Would have preferred someone with some real experience.

    This is also surprising, but in a different way. I honestly thought we'd bring Sal back in his place, especially with Vinnie here... wonder who Saban has in mind.

    Okay I was in Seattle for most of last week on business so I have to ask.

    WTF is going on with this talk of Saban going back to the pro's? I know that he disliked the pro's for certain reasons, but if he was given GM? There seems to be a lot of smoke behind this fire and I'm not exactly feeling all warm and fuzzy about it.

    I am hoping Sunseri is true. We might get Vernon Hargreaves either way as well. Veteran and excellent staff around Pruitt.

    No but UT's defense under Sal just looked totally confused and out of place constantly. As has been echoed throughout this thread, Pruitt's best asset is recruiting, and his biggest area of focus is southern AL and Florida. FSU has no problems recruiting in those areas, so the move just doesn't make sense to me at all. I wish him nothing but the best but this is a reach IMO.

    I know he's a great recruiter but FSU will always recruit great that's why I'm shocked Jimbo didn't hire a DC with experience.

    There's definitely that logic. But honestly we could recruit better. Our rankings over the years have been skewed by signing guys that were very low character when Urban would land the same athlete but with a team leader attitude.

    UF got Spikes and we got Rouse.

    If we get McQuay and Tunsil those are legitimate program boosters.

    That was under Bowden. Under Jimbo FSU has been recruiting with the top teams in the country before we pulled this guy. If the classes under Bowden were the floor and the classes under Jimbo the ceiling there is no reason to hire a DC just because he can recruit. Jimbo is basically staking his job on this one so he has to love the guy. But this is the definition of boom or bust. And if this guy mops the floor with 10 teams and then gets crushed by UF and Clemson he will get the entire staff fired.

    Now he is a terrible football coach. That we know to be true. He is 100% just a recruiter. Sal Suneri coached the hell out of our pass rushers when Lance left and we improved by leaps and bounds. He is just a hired recruiter. He cheated on his wife with a coed and got caught. That's why he "left" the first time.

    Agree with this 100%, and since his return to Bama he isn't even lighting it up on the recruiting trail. I wish we'd take Sal back and send LT's ass packing.

    Nah. He's been the DC at several high schools, including Hoover when Propst was there.

    There is a HUGE disparity between the talent level on the defense at Tenn and the defense at FSU.

    Having great players is 90% of having a great defense. Stoops looked like a genius at FSU when all he did was rush 4 and play soft zones for 3 years.

  • Exactly. Stoops' D here at FSU was so bland I cried some games. DJ Elliot did more for FSU than Stoops did.

    Sunseri would be a HUGE pickup as our blitzes would find home far more often.

    Someone said LUCKY was hearing Sunseri to FSU last night. I am thanful Thompson is staying and hope we can get Sunseri to go along with Kevin Patrick or Vernon Hargreaves. That would make me get a chub.

    Sunseri is a very good position coach. He was a huge upgrade in the coaching department over Lance Thomson. Our pass rushing got much better. I wondered this year how much different Adrian Hubbard would have been if he had Sunseri coaching him instead of Thompson. But I am one Bama fan who was a little underwhelmed with his recruiting. He struck out really bad at UT and didn't do as well as most Bama fans like to think he did when he was here. But you guys have enough recruiters so that's not even an issue.
