Well, yeah, I guess. I mean, it is feasible that your good friend could be harboring a child rapist and you'd never know, but it is also likely that you would figure it out. Just wondering which was the case here.

They probably only saw each other when they played. From what I understand they respected each other but I've never heard they had houses next to each other or anything.

They were more friendly than friends. It's not like they were huge buddies away from the game. Yet somehow you think they were such good friends that Paterno would tell Bryant, "Sandusky is raping kids, but I'm not going to do anything about it. Keep it a secret please."

None of your logic makes sense. And if your logic were correct, how many people other than Bryant would have had to know? There's no way Sandusky would have gotten away with it for as long as he did. Surely Paterno has friends that are much closer than he and Bryant were (which wasn't what you seem to think).
