    Bible.

So you believe the Bible is the true and perfect word of God, correct? How do you know that your interpretation of its contents are correct? This is my main issue. If two reasonable people can read one book, and cannot agree on its contents, and therefore divide up and make their own churches aligning to their interpretations, how can you be sure that your reading is the one that is right?

That's an unbelieving mindset. The Bible states that not even a sparrow falls to the ground outside of the will of God. If he can steward every sparrow how much more capable is He to steward the Word of God?

The Word of God, according to the Bible, was made manifest in two ways: Jesus Christ the God-man and the Bible.

To believe the Bible is inherently flawed because of how much influence and proximity it has had to man would be the exact equivalent to saying Christ was inherently flawed because of how much time he spent around humans in His 33 years. The very rock of our salvation is tied to the Bible being inerrant. Those Christians who believe it's erred have no idea the implications of their statement. The very Christ they have created is incapable of saving them.

    1 Cor. 11: 18-19

    along with Romans 1: 18

The struggle for most Americans is that in this day and region there are so many false converts it would have been an utterly confounding issue to the disciples. To be Christian has always meant having your social life totally ruined. Now a days, namely in the Southeast its this social deal to be Christian.

The amount of false converts in the modern Southeastern United States makes the faith nearly impossible to respect for unbelievers.

I would argue that if God, the supposed Almighty creator of the universe, can't even ensure that his Word is protected and kept accurate through the course of history, then he is not all-powerful, and certainly not worthy of any kind of worship. If we believe the Bible has errors, that's fine, but we should find something else to call "God."

"Quit trying to make a play and do your job!"

    Gibber71

  • BTW, I'm not arguing that anyone who interprets scripture differently than me has those beliefs. Just strictly talking about IF someone believes the Bible has errors, not any and all differing opinions from mine.

"Quit trying to make a play and do your job!"

    Gibber71

  • Imagine if your only experience with Christians was that they met in houses and worshipped. And they helped the poor and needy. And when afflicted or oppressed all they did was pray and fast and worship. And because they did these things the government arrested them, imprisoned them and killed them. All the while they proclaimed a love and adoration for a Jewish man they believe was borne of God, fulfilled the law, and died for their sins.

You'd think, "Man, I don't get it.....but those are some solid people"

Aside from the modern Southeastern US that's how it's been for most every Christian in history.

I never suggested the Bible was inherently flawed. I suggested there were numerous interpretations of the Bible. Do you disagree with that?

If you read the Bible, and try not to apply and humanistic thoughts to it. Then God is perfect, when you begin to try and rationalize what God is or says, then you make Him less than what He is. So I can see where you can gather that thought. However, God is perfect and has no errors. Each will do his own will with His word, that does not make it correct.

Moving on to another person who is not actually a Christian and yet somehow bares the name and slanders the faith.

This guy is as lost as a baseball in tall grass.

This guy is about on the same level as that church in Kansas that protest military funerals. Idiots.

    See post below yours.

To add to that, I believe what the bible says is inherently correct if you apply it to the way things are today. You have to know how to apply it is the difficult way, and it is easy to get lost. However, if you admit you are a sinful person, believe that Jesus is God's son, and confess those sins then you have the makings of a good faith and that is the bottom line of what is necessary for us to know. There are other important things, and I would not suggest to anyone to stop there lol

"The Holy Spirit will lead you into all understanding and knowledge"

Galations 3:8 tells that the scripture preached the Gospel to Abraham. 430 years before the law even came into place. We don't even need the written Word to know God fully. It's a spiritual reality. Romans 1 discusses it as well.

That said, having the scripture is both an infinite blessing and potentially an infinite stumbling block. Those of twisted heart will wield it endlessly for personal gain: Joel Osteen

Yeah, and you can discuss sovereign grace or personal choice all day but if you can see yourself as a sinful, depraved person who needs a savior to be reconciled by God. Something supernatural has happened in you and you are likely saved. That mindset goes against everything in the human nature.

    Amen.

Yep, at that point you just have to get luckier than any lottery winner ever and actually meet some Bible believing friends who will encourage you to persevere in the faith and war against your flesh. Most Christian friends you'll meet end up basically telling you to chill out with all the Bible reading, worship, and other "religious stuff". Flee from them.

Yeah, I agree. It is tough to find people who are truly sorry for what they sometimes do. You have to encourage them, but you cannot force them to confess

  • And that's my issue with Osteen. Imagine taking that friend who leads you astray, has unBiblical beliefs and interpretations, always describes God in a way that nullifies Him and magnifies you and give that friend access to hundreds of thousands of people that foolishly end up trusting him.

AND THEN he gets invited on Foxnews to represent Christianity.

    The end.

  • I guess if God wanted me to be a Christian then I would have been made a more intelligent being. Trying to make sense of all the rhetoric in this thread is futile.

  • if you cant earn your way into heaven by works of any kind but only by Grace then it would make sense that there are no sins/works that you commit that would send you to hell ; it is only through the Grace of God that we are saved by believing that Jesus is the Son of God , died for our sins and was resurrected .

False, I am far from a genius lol. It is literally as simple as ABC. People just want to complicate it.

dont watch him really at all but find it hard to believe that any knowledgeable pastor would claim that anyone much less a Christian would not experience tough times throughout their lifetime

Haha, actually the gospel is for the foolish. We are all made fools for the gospel. Applying lofty logic is one of the easiest ways to go astray. What did you not understand? Honestly, would love to clarify.
