I think you said it best yourself, "the gospel is for the foolish".

Assuming you mean that in a mocking sense you totally missed the point.

In perceived wisdom the world has been spiraled into never ending turmoil. I simply have had an experience that can be mysteriously well summarized by the overtly spiritual final scene of Contact.....

Jodie Foster final hearing - from Contact ...

Jodie Foster describes her "journey" into space in this final sequence from Contact 1997. James Woods is the tough interrogator. Matthew McConaughey looks on.

    You cannot possibly be serious.

You don't know who Fred Phelps is?

My brother is a United States Marine and if he is killed Fred Phelps will protest his funeral as an act of god as punishment because our nation "allows" homosexuality.

I'm not even kidding. I'm a girl, but think I won't punch someone in the face.

Oh, ok. I knew Westboro Baptist, just not the guy's name. Yeah, that's bs. My cousin's in the army and I feel the same way.

I watched one of his sermons. He's an interesting guy. He's different, which I don't mind, and his message seems solid. The KOG is big enough for all types.

really like the guy as he is not into the condemnation part of Christianity which i really like

  • Not even Christian haters associate Felps with Christianity.

No one enjoys criticism, but I don't think most will hate you for being a Christian. There are a few outspoken anti-Christian posters around here. But they're pretty harmless. Get involved in the debates and you'll begin to appreciate the wisdom of our faith even more. The arguments of those who hate our faith are consistently subjective and emotional.

does not in any way, shape form or fashion represent Christianity. Why Foxnews has him on as a representative of the faith is so beyond my mind it hurts.

The dude is not a minister of the gospel. He's a life coach or inspirational speaker that uses Christ to fool people into tithing to his "ministry".

    Clown show.

Seriously that's an intelligent observation. I second that motion

No one has ever converted to Christianity because they lost an argument.

    MAUDiculous

  • Pretty solid thread from both sides. I believe that only God knows where we stand with salvation but Jesus taught that our actions should show His sacrifice, mercy and grace. I'm grateful that my life (trainwreck) isn't where my salvation lies. Only grace. Btw, I'm as untrusting towards organized religion as anyone itt and "Christian" is the most misused word in ou language imo.

  • So do yall Bible beaters, like...you know...pick and choose which parts to "adhere" to, or you go with all of it (as contradictory as it is)?

That's a fantastic observation MAUD, thanks. I actually converted b/c I got tired of the lagging logic of my agnosticism.

Since the Bible isn't actually contradictory it's actually pretty easy to adhere to it all.

I wish I would "adhere" to all the parts, glad there's grace. I don't understand though, I'm not the smartest guy but I find the Bible to be pretty understandable (and not contradictory) for my life.

I try to adhere to it, but fail most of the time, as do most folks. That's pretty much the whole reason for Christ and the New Testament, is because man was unable to keep the law and standards of the Old Testament. Keeping in mind that the Bible must be read in context, what about it do you say is contradictory? 100% no flame.
