John Rocker speaks...

  • "Holocaust would have never taken place if Jewish people had guns" facepalm_msu. Still my favorite Brave though. towel

John Rocker writes in column that Holocaust ‘would have never taken place’ if Jewish people had guns  - NY Daily News

John Rocker has opened his mouth once again, and not surprisingly, something stupid came out of it. Rocker, infamous for racial and homophobic shots at New Yorkers in 1999, has weighed in on the gun control issue and the Holocaust.

  • While it's a stupid comment, I know where he was going with it.

My guess is that he is trying to say that taking guns away from people in general doesn't make sense, especially in a man's home. Would it have happened? Of course it would have because the SS would have still done what they did. It still would have made it harder.

I don't get in on a whole bunch of these gun discussion type threads because it makes no difference to me. I'm going to keep guns in my home no matter if it's legal or not. You break into my home, you're going to get killed. You don't break into my home, then you don't have to worry about me or my guns.

Couldn't he have said "the holocaust wouldn't have happened if the Germans didn't have guns" and it would have been about the same type of comment?

Yeah I suppose that he could have.

He would have been wrong with either one of the comments though. I don't know you well so I'm not real familiar with your political views and personally don't care what they are. I'm just trying to figure out where you are trying to go with this thread.

It is either one of three things encompassed by the following:

    1. Guns suck and anyone that owns one is a POS
    2. Guns are awesome and anyone that wants to deny us the right are POS's
    3. John Rocker is as nuts as we all knew he was and he proves it yet again.

I have a hard time thinking that you are somewhere in the middle when you post this.

Basically #3. Also I'm a gun owner but do believe in some forms of gun control.

I do as well so I'm not trying to jump on you. We all knew that John Rocker was was crazy and just thought you were going somewhere else with the thread.

It is kind of funny that someone would actually say stuff like that in public though. I guess it's no surprise coming from him though.

Nothing but solid gold comes out of his mouth when he speaks. Lol. That's why he's my favorite brave...but then again I'm not a braves fan. shrug

  • What was the one that really got him in hot water?

I know it was racist but I'm talking about his first one. He had several after the first but I remember his first slip being pretty bad.

The two worst that I can remember was Rocker and the Reds' female owner making the big time racist comment about Deion.

I know he got in a lot of hot water because of his comments about New Yorkers, which I don't have a problem with. stir

On if he'd play in New York:

"I'd retire first. It's the most hectic, nerve-racking city. Imagine having to take the 7 Train to the ballpark looking like you're riding through Beirut next to some kid with purple hair, next to some queer with AIDS, right next to some dude who just got out of jail for the fourth time, right next to some 20-year-old mom with four kids. It's depressing... The biggest thing I don't like about New York are the foreigners. You can walk an entire block in Times Square and not hear anybody speaking English. Asians and Koreans and Vietnamese and Indians and Russians and Spanish people and everything up there. How the hell did they get in this country?"

On the Mets and their fans:

"Nowhere else in the country do people spit at you, throw bottles at you, throw quarters at you, throw batteries at you and say, 'Hey, I did your mother last night — she's a whore.' I talked about what degenerates they were and they proved me right.?

  • I really doubt that small firearms would have prevented the most brutally mechanized mass extermination history has ever seen. I don't even think it would have slowed it down in the slightest.

I'm sorry but I laughed at that and know that it's wrong on so many levels. I think that you can only laugh because it's just so far out there. I mean who in their right mind says stuff like that as a professional athlete?

    That's the problem...

What he said was mostly (if not all) true.... but he can't afford to say that as a MLB baseball player though. Now if he was a comedian, that'd be a different story. He'd be praised IMO.

There's a difference between noting that New York City has a high number of Asian immigrants... and angrily complaining that there are Asians everywhere, asking "How the hell did they get in this country?" and saying that their presence is "one of the biggest things" you don't like about the city.

Big difference. But yes, NYC has a large Asian-American population.

I have no problem with this quote........ To each his own. He wasn't lying. shrug

Btw what he said was very true OP. You just have a problem with who said it.

Huh, I've clearly stated twice he's my favorite brave so why would I have a problem with it because "he" said it? He could have said "the holocaust wouldn't have happened if the Germans didn't have guns" and I would feel the same way. If the Jews had guns it still would have happened.

Him being your favorite Brave has nothing to do with it... I'm saying it's only news bc of his past. If Raphael Beliard (spelling?) had said it, would this thread have been started? Heck no. We only care bc he's a train wreck waiting to take place & we won't dare turn our heads.

Well ya. lol. When John talks its thread worthy. shrug

Lol, I always wondered what happened to this guy.

When you read his entire quote it really isn't that offensive.

change queer to homosexual, and there isn't really anything offensive or untrue in his comments lol.

  • 1. People say that if teachers had guns at school, they could defend themselves and stop these school shootings. It seems he was trying to draw (although quite distasteful) a comparison as saying guns would have protected Jewish people from their oppressors.

    2. Can't really see the context of his statement, but I look at the bigger picture here that a location(NYC) with an obvious axe to grind with an inflamatory personality (Rocker) would still carry some vendetta against him. Otherwise, who really cares what some random guy says??? It would stand to plausibility that a news source could take a statement out of context to fit their need for ratings/sales. I, in no way, condone what Rocker said, but I can't criticize it either (as I don't know the exact context).

With this said, I never liked Rocker when he was a player, but we have to at least be fair to his right to freedom of speech.
