The beauty of the Longhorn network contract is that ESPN is responsible for funding the substantial start up costs. The production value of the programming is very high-quality. They built a state-of-the-art broadcast facility in Austin to boot. Texas is guaranteed $15 million per year for the life of the contract (slight black loading). The real upside, however, is at the end of the contract. Once ESPN has recovered its costs, Texas gets 70% of the revenue and ESPN 30%. That will make the $15 million per year seem like pocket change. A single school network is unprecedented. It will take time to get full coverage. But it is inevitable that this will happen. Texas is by far the leading brand in college football. The Longhorn network ensures that this will continue for the next 20 years.

Arky may be down at the moment, but that is one series that I would like to see revived. Texas versus Arkansas was real rivalry game. It never quite matched OU, but it was head and shoulders above the A&M game every single year. So much so that I never even thought of A&M as a rivalry game.

I hate to say it, but as long as Mack is your coach you will get stomped in most of those game.
