  • With the improvement of the helmets, I see less and less cases like this happening in the future. Also with the new info on concussions and rules, players won't be able to play through a concussion or two. We'll see, but I don't see anymore radical changes being made.

    Honestly that wouldn't even surprise me with the amount of money at stake in the NFL business decisions

    Be pretty awesome if Seau was such a good guy he took himself out for the safety of future players

    I mean I hear you but odds are it was

    Playing in the NFL is a drug of some sort and when just taken away from these guys, well life after is rough both with the pain you deal with and the loss of the spotlight/favorite true love in this world which is playing the game you love at the highest level and being adored by millions

    Some of these guys loved the game and playing in the NFL as much as some love their first born

    and most addicts only quit cause they really really want too, if just stripped from the drug and forced to live most would just curl up and die

    And in a sense that is what we are talking about when these guys retire, especially in the NFL cause most of their bodies break down long before their minds are done loving to play

    Playing in the NFL is a true addicting drug with terrible side effects after its over

    I agree it could have been that, and not the concussion thing everyone is talking about. Two totally different things

    Boxing and MMA are still worse imo. I never really cared for either, although I can watch MMA with buddies. I've never liked boxing.

    The 18 game regular season schedule will never fly now. I never thought it would pass prior to the deaths of Duerson and Seau.

    Boxing is BY FAR the worst, well as far as we know. During the course of a boxing match, you may be hit in the head hundreds of times. In an MMA bout, one good shot and you are out. The lights automatically turn out at a specific level of spinal displacement, it is a physiological protective mechanism. It is, they believe, the cumulation of traumatic events and not the force of a single blow that is believed to really be the issue. But, I guess we won't really find out for a while because of the relative novelty of MMA.

  • Idk. Sometime’s I feel like the sport is eventually going to die like Boxing has and then sometimes I feel like hopefully the future advancements in medicine and the understanding of head trauma, can save the game.

    BTW RIP Junior. I remember as a kid wanting to wear either 52 or 55, because Ray and Junior wore those numbers.

  • What I think is great is Mgoblog. I was reading various threads on this issue and many people were talking about how they would never let their kid play High School football because the sport was so dangerous with these long term risks. I guess then they will stop watching Michigan football?

    I mean, they know that by supporting the team with their eyeballs and money they are supporting the continuation of a barbaric sport which they have decided is too inherently dangerous for their own children. A sport in which they believe no amount of size or skill can prevent these types of long term brain damage. I guess if its not their kids then it is morally fine to watch others play even after making a reasoned decision to keep their own children out because of serious long term health risks?

    It seems if you really believe the game is so incredibly dangerous, as some do, then it would be morally repugnant for them to have any involvement with the current game as it stands beyond preaching about the dangers of the game. Stop watching football, and only post about BB and radically changing the rules of football. I doubt that will happen. More likely they will watch and then wring their hands about the dangers other people's kids are in later in the week.
