Kansas has to be kicking itself for firing Mangino about now!

  • Just check out the link. I guess they figured hiring another fat man may be their lucky charm but really? Your actually practicing celebrations?

Also why hasn't Mangino's name come up for decent head coaching jobs? I think he would honestly be a damn good fit at Arky.

Damn it also had a link in that where it said it was Carson Tinker's father who broke the BCS trophy. Poor Carson and I'm not trying to make a joke. His girlfriend dies in the tornado and his father breaks the BCS trophy. I feel bad for the kid. It's not like anyone can get mad at him at this point.

They were good in the Big XII North. Which was probably easier than winning the WAC at the time.

Why did he get fired? Cursing at players or something. Didnt they win the Orange Bowl with him coaching?

I think he was being racist with some of his players if I remember correctly. Or so they say he was and yes they did win the Orange Bowl under him.

To Oryhara: Big XII North or not they were more successful than they had ever been before and since under him. Also wasn't Nebraska in the Big XII North?

Also, Missouri got kinda screwed by having to play OU twice and missing out on a BCS bowl. Kansas got reward by playing VT that year.

Also, Kansas started 5-0 and finished with seven straight losses in Mangino's final season iirc.

Correct they were more successful than they ever had been. They are Kansas.

Mangino is a terrible people person and in order to build a program you need money and to not piss off your superiors. Mangino was good at neither of those things. I think the AD made the right move in firing him because it could have spiraled out of control with how ugly it was getting in Lawrence. They made a terrible hire in Turner Gill.

And yes Nebraska was in the Big XII North. The Callahan years were the worst the program has had since the 60's. Kudos to Kansas and Mizzou making the briefest of runs while Nebraska was down.

I'm not trying to slam Nebraska or anything. I just found that article funny as fvck. I mean practicing celebrations? Come on.

this. that is when nebraska sucked big time and had no competition in the north. they were good for 1 year, really good for another, and that was it.
