Kliff Kingsbury is not in Lubbock

  • Spoke to my friend who is still in school there (in the same fraternity that Kingsbury was). He is definitely in town. No idea if it's for an interview or not, but he's there.

Edit: he's an idiot. Kingsbury is not there

  • Considering, he was at the Bright Complex this morning, I doubt he's in Lubbock now. Will he take an interview, yes and if offered the job, he'd take it but I don't think he's on top of Tech's list.

I don't think he'd be on top of the list either. The Art Briles chatter seems to be getting louder and even if he's not the guy I think they go after someone more experienced. Interesting all the same. Obviously we have conflicting reports (unless he hopped on a plane right after morning workouts or something). Strange.

He's supposed to be at a Heisman Gala, tomorrow(I think?) So, I don't see him interviewing in person but I think he'll do a phone interview. Honestly, I know it's his alma mater but it would be dumb of him to leave for Tech now, especially with JFF being a Freshman. He can get a better job in a year or two and I'm sure the Tech job will come open again in a couple of years.

Yeah I edited the OP. My friend was wrong. You're right that he'll probably at least get a phone interview. I still can't see him actually getting the job, but I think you're wrong that it would be a dumb move. He'd be getting a big raise to be a very young head coach at his alma mater in a major conference. The same formula he would use has won out there before. Honestly, if he waits 2 or 3 more years, what better job will be be up for? Some will actually discount him for having manziel (rather than giving him credit for grooming him). Others will still be wary of his youth. What schools better than Tech would actually hire him for his first job?

I guess we just have a different outlook on the Tech job. IMO it's a dumpster fire job, have you ever been to Lubbock? It's probably the worst city in the state.

Yeah I've been and while it's not my kind of place, the Tech people love it. Kingsbury appears to be loyal to his school even as the A&M coach. I haven't watched every game this year, but isn't it true that he almost always wears black or white Aggie gear (prefers to avoid the maroon). Coaching is a business and I know he wants y'all to dominate as long as he's there, but by all indications his heart will always be with his alma mater.

He wears black or white so that the O can easily identify him on the sidelines for audibles but I do agree that he seems to really be loyal to Tech. Apparently, he was really loyal to Leach and he isn't happy with how Leach was treated, I don't know how true that is but that's the rumor.

  • the shirt colors have more to do with the players being able to identify him on the sideline from the field....similar to other teams (ND I believe) who have guys wear red hats on the sidelines that signal in the plays.

    Nothing less, nothing more.

    Ollie North

  • I do think if he leaves, though, we'll be fine on offense. If he leaves, expect us to make a run at Clemson's OC Chad Morris, who's a former Ag.

Didnt know that about the shirts - makes sense.

I could definitely see him being unhappy with the way leach was treated.

  • That and he looks like a baller sporting black plus the wayfarers. I didn't know he was Greek until this thread but now it makes sense.

Yeah he was a Sigma Chi up there. But that probably doesn't mean much. At least at Alabama it doesn't. The football players are too busy to go through the full pledgeship process so they kind of show up for big parties and not much else. They might as well just be called honorary members. It may be different at Tech though.
