Kobe at age 34 > MJ at age 34

This is outrageous. They didn't both enter the league at the same time. Do it by season.

Why? It's not like each player gets 15 years and that's it.

Lebron's trohpy case at 27> MJ's trophy case at 27.

    Cue the Jordan fanboys

Hahaha, you obviously have no clue.

A fanboy is someone struggling to make a case that can't be made...like the OP hunting down some extraneous isolated factoid to try to imply that Kobe is on a par with MJ...because of a single bit of minutiae which is pretty much apropos of nothing.

But you guys keep digging for whatever puts your boy in the most favorable light possible, dim though it may be by comparison.

I'll admit it's a little entertaining watching people tilt at windmills

    I'm just saying...

I use the word fanboy because Jordan fans are insanely easy to get upset. Any suggestion that he is not the GOAT and everyone born between 1970-1990 engages in an internet meltdown

I'm just saying if we are going to compare, then compare season 1 to season 1, season 2 to season 2. Not age based comparison. Once again, age based comparison doesn't mean anything in this case. Maybe if we compared McGrady and Kobe or something...Lebron and kobe, but no with MJ

All that does is remove the most recent three years for Kobe. If you're going to do anything, it makes sense to throw out Kobe's numbers from years 1-3 as Jordan wasn't in the NBA at that age.

All I am saying is that when MJ was Lebron's age he hadn't accomplished anything. At age 27:

    MJ:

    5 playoff series wins
    .453 playoff win percentage
    1 MVP
    0 Finals appearances
    0 Finals MVPs
    0 NBA Championships

    Lebron:

    15 playoff series wins
    .626 playoff win percentage
    3 MVPs
    3 Finals appearances
    1 Finals MVP
    1 NBA Championship

FYI to answer your question about top 5 all time, I got MJ, Kobe, LBJ, Wilt, and Kareem in no particular order.

You make a solid case, but the flaw in the argument is the talent disparity from that time to now. And obviously Lebron had 3 more years to build those stats or gain experience to help him achieve those stats.

True, but he more or less didn't accomplish much his first three years in the league. If you threw those out it would only change I think playoff series wins and win pct.

The East was down when he won it in 2007, but since 2008 the talent in the East has been excellent.

    Numbers don't lie

    Kobe- 29.5 ppg 5.2 rpg 5.0 apg 47.7% FG 38.1 3pt% 1.6 spg
    MJ- 28.7 ppg 5.8 rpg 3.5 apg 46.5% FG 23.8 3pt% 1.7 spg

I take it from this post that your helmet did not do its job on your bus rides to school when you were younger.

  • BAWAHHAAAAAAaaaa at the OP! Please don't compare anything Kobe or Lebron do to the G.O.A.T. Neither are even in the same stratosphere as MJ. The hand check rule you can't put your hands on a guy in today's NBA, if MJ played today he would average at least 50. Good Job good effort just remember MIchael Jeffrey Jordan the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be..

Well you do realize Lebron came straight out of high school as MJ played in College? I don't know why people always leave this out.. Lebron had a few extra years to get his first ring

All I am saying is 27 year old LBJ>>>27 year old MJ.

All that matters is what you have accomplished at whichever point in your career. Players typically play until they are 36-38. It doesn't matter if you come in at 18 or 22. It's not as if players are limited to X amount of years.

Apply this to the business world. Imagine two guys. One becomes a CEO of a company at 40, despite not going to business school first. The second one does get his MBA, but doesn't become a CEO until 44. Who is more successful at age 40?

  • Most high school to pro guys break down a lot earlier than guys who went to college.

Look at the list of the HS guys whose bodies have broken down in their early thirties. Lebron is a freak and a workout warrior so he might be different, but that's a real possibility.

Kobe lost 2 NBA finals series, MJ never even allowed a finals series to go to game 7; Kobe was only the finals MVP 2x while MJ was finals MVP 6x, Lebron way to early to compare him to MJ..

    jmsmooth33

  • All the MJ proponents in this thread have made some pretty good points, but they're all to prove that MJ is better than Kobe which I don't believe any knowledgable person would argue, not even the OP. Just reiterates my earlier point that if you say MJ wasn't the best in every facet of the game at any time it's freakin sacreligious.

Good point but wait I got the answer, Let's see oh ya i got it, MJ went to college for 3 years while LBJ came straight out of High school. The funniest thing I ever heard is people comparing LBJ to MJ, MJ at age 40 I don't think Jason Kidd or sean marion would be able to shut him down in the Finals let alone like they did in shutdown LBJ in his prime...
