There's lies damn lies and statisitics, the article above will explain how the handcheck rule pre and post has exagerrated stats. When MJ played you can actually put your hands on the defender, if MJ played in this era he would average at least 50 points..

The year MJ ditched his teammates to go chase a MLB pipe dream, the Bulls won 55 games and were 1 egregious call away from making the finals again. Take away Kobe from any of those Laker championship teams, and the Lakers win NOTHING. Jordan played with one the greatest rebounders to ever play the game (HOFer Rodman) and the greatest perimeter defender to ever play the game (HOFer Pippen)....he also played with the greatest 3 point shooter in NBA history (Kerr).
It's an absolute FACT that MJ has never made it past the 1st round of the playoffs without Scottie Pippen.

You're horrible at this.
MJ: 6 NBA Finals, 6 rings, 6 Finals, a perfect 100%.
Kobe: 7 NBA Finals, 5 rings, 2 Finals MVP's, a paltry 28.5%...LULZ.
MJ showed up for every Finals he ever played in with the heart of a champion, and led his team to the ship. Every time.
Kobe took it on the chin in a couple, rode coattails in 3, and only stepped up to be the man twice.
Don't embarrass Kobe comparing him to MJ...heart of a wolf compared to the heart of a lion

True greatness is forged where the fire's the hottest, and measured on the biggest stage of all: NBA finals....a place where Jordan was never...NEVER...found lacking.
Kobe, the other hand....well 28.5% speaks for itself.
Keep'em coming though because it's pretty damn funny to see the rhetorical gymnastics that you and others ITT continue to engage in to try and establish equivalence between wilting on the biggest stage and stepping up on the biggest stage.
Not sure of the motivation, but entertaining nonetheless.

Like I said earlier, I haven't read this whole thread, but I have yet to see anyone say Kobe is better than Jordan. Just that he's playing better at 34 years of age than MJ. You can spout off all the stats you want. My main argument here is the poster that said Kobe isn't "In the same stratosphere" as Jordan, is just ridiculous. I've never heard any NBA players or experts say that(Mark Jackson has even said Kobe is better than Jordan, and Jackson played against Jordan his whole career). They all admit Kobe is right up there at the top. The funny thing is, is that the Jordan lovers put him on some sort of untouchable level. As if Jordan was perfect at every aspect of the game. He wasn't. Not even close in fact. Yes Jordan is the greatest ever, but he's not untouchable, there's just a lot of Jordan homers in the world. Kobe is an absolutely amazing basketball player/competitor, and the league will miss him when he's gone.

1.) You can't start a thread comparing player A to B with a singular isolated piece of minutiae which happens to favor the player clearly understood to be the lesser of the two, and expect that trotting out that anomaly isn't going to generate broader comparisons of the two players.
2.) Kobe is a great player--certainly a Top 10 all time player--but he's nowhere near as close to MJ--arguably, and by consensus GOAT, and unquestionably at least Top 2-as many ITT believe.
3.) And Mark Jackson thinks Kobe's better.....hahaha.../sarcasm/well, that settles the debate/sarcasm/.
4) Those ITT who are shocked by 1.) and respond with "nobody said Kobe was better" are either incredibly naive or lying.(except Joe who was honest enough to admit that the OP's stated point translated to being pretty much nothing of any significance).
5.) Those ITT who don't understand 2.) are clearly rocking an extra chromosome.
6.) The posters ITT reppin' 4) and 5.) bring the LULZ

No team from Kobe's era other than his own come close to the bad boys pistons teams and the Celtics from the mid 80's that Jordan had to go up against. The competition was at its best when Jordan played making what he did even more incredible.
Kobe is top 10, that's a ridiculously huge feat. Top 5 would be a force though and please, please stop trying to put him in a category with MJ. You literally have to be perfect in your prime to be on his level.

You can't possibly believe this?
Losing to an all time great 2008 Celtics team with three HOF'ers in their prime is more of a black mark than losing in the second round to the Magic?
MJ is the best IMO as things stand today, but for the love of God, can we all just stop the MJ fellatio and admit that it isn't sacrilege to compare him to anyone else?

I'm a Celtics fan and that is nowhere near an all-time great team it took us 7 games to beat the Atlanta Hawks, MJ's bulls would of swept that team. Also all our HOF'ers were past their prime, MJ just came out of retirement and was out of shape, if MJ never retired he would have won 8 straight titles.

I was simply bringing up the Mark Jackson thing because like I had said, the majority of nba experts and former players disagree that kobe shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence as Jordan. We'll have to agree to disagree, but they may have a more educated opinion than some internet posters. On that note, I'll let you Jordan lovers get back to making out ;)

Kobe had to go against all time great Spurs teams as well as the recent Celtics teams which had multiple HOF'ers.
Yes, MJ played great opponents, but he LOST to them. Lets be honest, he faced some pretty meh opponents after his first title: Trailblazers, Suns, and SuperSonics?
