How much are you expecting to go directly to charity honestly?

Most people who work full time expect to be paid. It's a non profit organization, do you understand this concept?

Not arguing with what you are saying, but there are a ton of "non profits" who aren't non profit. There are so many ways around the rules that it isn't funny.

  • Another question I have about this movement...

If Kony is a warlord who has an army of children that are all going to die trying to protect him, wouldn't a military effort to take him out kill a whole lot of children?

  • And more...

The organization behind Kony 2012 — Invisible Children Inc. — is an extremely shady nonprofit that has been called ”misleading,” “naive,” and “dangerous” by a Yale political science professor, and has been accused by Foreign Affairs of “manipulat[ing] facts for strategic purposes.” They have also been criticized by the Better Business Bureau for refusing to provide information necessary to determine if IC meets the Bureau’s standards.

  • I haven't had a chance to see the video yet, but based on the comments I have some questions. Are we talking about supporting the Ugandan gov't against this Kony character? If so, we are talking about supporting crooks who don't care about their people a whole hell of a lot more than Kony does, if they do at all. Maybe the Ugandan gov't can start to address the situation by tapping into that $1.1 billion that we gave them last year... I just read an article a day or 2 ago about a nodding disease that is killing a bunch of children in Uganda. They don't have a treatment or a cure and instead of devoting resources towards trying to find a treatment or cure, the gov't goes out and spends $3.5 million on luxury car stipends for their 170 newly elected parliamentary officials. Then they spend their time arguing about whether the ministry of health of the dictator is to blame for the situation rather than doing anything about it. Like I said though, I haven't been able to watch the film yet and my opinion may change, but I'm leary of any idea that involves assisting their current gov't against Kony, because they don't appear to be much more concerned about the children in Uganda.

FTR, I don't take issue with people who feel we should help out the situation at all, but I do wonder why we don't start at home if we are in 'help the children' mode? I think that makes more sense personally. However, at the end of the day if private individuals want to give to charitable organizations to help the Kony issue, that's your business and kudos to you for trying to help others that you don't even know. I just hope the funds you contribute actually end up going to address the problem at hand as opposed to lining someone else's pockets.

You realize the US goverment has made many attempts of either capturing or killing Kony right?

This isn't starting anything. Outside of lining the pockets of IC's founders and Uganda's government that is.

You do realize you can pressure your congressional representative into policy action without donating a cent to IC? You do realize you can support a cause and not support group? This is about coming together as a collective solution to do some right in this world, whether or big,how small, how bad,how good. I don't give a f*** about the dude from the doc and his organization. I want to see Kony rotting in a damn cell.

The point is the US government already knows who Kony is and has already tried to arrest / kill him. There were US troops in Uganda before IC was even formed.

There's also a very good chance that Kony is dead.

I'm guessing you didn't watch the video? It was discussed that there is a good chance that funds for US involvement would be in jeopardy for the next FY. Would also be nice if we could get a little international support.

  • People don't have to donate to IC or anything, but getting Kony's name out there is something everyone should support. There are tons of horrible people in this world doing horrible things and no one knows about it, people should be informed of these things.

What happens after Kony is captured / killed?

Are you ok with the many, many children who will be killed in this effort?

Don't take this the wrong way, but why?

Why will "making Kony famous" matter?

Like I said, there's a very good chance he's already dead.
