That one lady made a big deal about it....in 2003, nearly a decade ago. I watch, read, and listen to sports for hours everyday....I haven't come across "women at Augusta" in years. If this was from outside pressure, where was the pressure? This topic has been nationally dead for a long, long time.
If there was any pressure, it must have come from inside the club membership, in which case, as others have noted, it was purely their decision to make the change on behalf of members (whether it was 5 or 500 members).
