  • I think the jury is still out until our TRUE rivals weigh in on the hire.

Do we have any Indiana fans on the board?

  • worst hire ever. This guy has admitted his hate for recruiting. The only year we let him call the plays here, he made Al Borges look like Jon Gruden

Probably not want Spartan fans had in mind when they thought of replacing Roushar.

Well he is just a step below the other options some msu fans have mentioned Mooch and Gruden. :)

Something tells me we now can officially start the countdown clock to Drake Harris' decommitment.

I don't know, Harris has always said how much he wants to play in an offensive scheme where he'll end up run-blocking on every 1st and 2nd down in his career.

EDIT: Or, at least until Spartan fans start the "Fire Bollman" chants in about 7 months.

  • Just waiting for Cope to show up. You know he is cooking up some ridiculous spin lol

You know it's a bad hire when the Spartan fan base goes MIA.

This hire is so bad, it just seems wrong to make fun of it. May God have mercy on your football souls.

For once, I agree with Woodson. panic

  • So he's a poor recruiter and can't run an offense?

    Oh.

  • Sparty NO! Will only be used for bball games from now on because their football team will never be in another meaningful game as long as Bollman is there.

I have no idea how good or poor this hire is.. I really don't know that much about him..

He was OSU's OC from 01-11, so that means he has a NT ring and multiple BCS rings.. if Tressel was truly calling the plays the entire time, why would he stay on as an OC? (serious question).

Also think it's unfair to look at the 2011 season that included a scandal, their top 4-5 players suspended for a while, a true frosh who can't really throw in a pro-style O.. though I do remember them throwing up tons of points against UM when they basically had their entire personnel..

If he blows as a recruiter, that sucks and that seems to be something Dantonio has put an emphasis on, so it seems strange to hire someone who, if he did come out and say it, that he doesn't like recruiting.. that doesn't sit well with me.. but in terms of actual playcalling, I really have no idea what to expect.

Also should note, MSU still hasn't confirmed this hire and recruits that were asked haven't been told anything.

Cope 90% of our qngst is due to recruiting...you see how Michigan fans crack us about our O line and lack of depth? That's due solely to Bollman...

Which then makes the hire even more puzzling as Dantonio just replaced their DL coach in one regard because he didn't like to recruit.

Seems shocking that we'd hire him as an OC if he's known to not like or be an, at least, decent recruiter

This. Our top O-line commit in 2012 didn't have an offer from Bollman. Didn't even call the kid. Thank goodness we got a coach who reached out to the kid and flipped him.

Thing is kids love him. Mike Adams, Brewster and the like...they all loved Bollman and were top flight O-linemen. Problem is he kept the depth so thin and once he got his one or two guys he was done for the year.

  • If you have no idea what to expect from Bollman it's because you haven't been paying attention, or you are in denial about how poor this hire is.

Have fun with this guy as your OC lol

I'm sure Drake Harris is chomping at the bit to be in this guys offense. This is why MSU is MSU.

I'm not in denial.. I really didn't know who he was until looking at his resume.

Clearly he must have done something right to stay on JT's staff through the 2000s

And I'm not sure why Harris isn't chomping at the bit.. MSU is still going to throw it a lot and run a pro-style offense that will suit him in the NFL. I'm sure Bollman calling plays for the likes of Ted Ginn, Hartline, Michael Jenkins and others isn't a bad thing in Harris' mind

And to be fair- you have no idea what the UM offense is going to look like either.. Borges has his own issues- so perhaps you should focus on that

Interesting.. And if he can coach up or improve MSU's OL, I do like that, though injuries seemed to derail decent to good OL's over the last couple of years more than anything..

The lack of depth doesn't concern me simply because if Dantonio wants 3-4 OL, he's going to get 3-4 OL.. (now, if in 2014 and 2015 MSU only takes 2-3 OL each year, OK, then the issue is much bigger), but until then- I think it's a wait and see approach with him.

    copemoney0

  • Question for Buckeye fans, why was he kept on Ohio State staff for so long?

Bollman wasn't calling plays, Tressel was from the chatter I am reading.

Also this thread isn't about Borges or Michigan brah, this about Bollman and what a terrible hire this was.

ITT thread we discuss MSU football, and not deflect like you love doing.

Bollman took Braxton Miller, hand-picked veteran OL featuring NFL'ers, NFL talent at WR/RB and his offense was in the 100s. (stole this from 11W I believe) That's his resume. He also got fired by BC after a year coaching their OL. lol

    Homerun hire.

Yes.. that season had nothing to do with the JT scandal, the fact their top 5 players were suspended for half or most of the season or the fact they started a true frosh who has 0 arm strength in to run a pro style offense.

    Please- take your trolling elsewhere.

Clearly he did something right, otherwise not sure why JT kept him on the staff for so long

And if I remember correctly, they lit up UM in the last game of the season

You must be a glass half full kind of guy, this is really taking strides in making the B1G more competitive.... The guage will be how many points did you allow sparty to score with a shutout being the norm. Better start picking up 2 QB's a year, depth will be an absolute need from here on out.
