worst hire ever. This guy has admitted his hate for recruiting. The only year we let him call the plays here, he made Al Borges look like Jon Gruden

I have no idea how good or poor this hire is.. I really don't know that much about him..

He was OSU's OC from 01-11, so that means he has a NT ring and multiple BCS rings.. if Tressel was truly calling the plays the entire time, why would he stay on as an OC? (serious question).

Also think it's unfair to look at the 2011 season that included a scandal, their top 4-5 players suspended for a while, a true frosh who can't really throw in a pro-style O.. though I do remember them throwing up tons of points against UM when they basically had their entire personnel..

If he blows as a recruiter, that sucks and that seems to be something Dantonio has put an emphasis on, so it seems strange to hire someone who, if he did come out and say it, that he doesn't like recruiting.. that doesn't sit well with me.. but in terms of actual playcalling, I really have no idea what to expect.

Also should note, MSU still hasn't confirmed this hire and recruits that were asked haven't been told anything.

Cope 90% of our qngst is due to recruiting...you see how Michigan fans crack us about our O line and lack of depth? That's due solely to Bollman...

This. Our top O-line commit in 2012 didn't have an offer from Bollman. Didn't even call the kid. Thank goodness we got a coach who reached out to the kid and flipped him.

If you have no idea what to expect from Bollman it's because you haven't been paying attention, or you are in denial about how poor this hire is.

I'm sure Drake Harris is chomping at the bit to be in this guys offense. This is why MSU is MSU.

Interesting.. And if he can coach up or improve MSU's OL, I do like that, though injuries seemed to derail decent to good OL's over the last couple of years more than anything..

The lack of depth doesn't concern me simply because if Dantonio wants 3-4 OL, he's going to get 3-4 OL.. (now, if in 2014 and 2015 MSU only takes 2-3 OL each year, OK, then the issue is much bigger), but until then- I think it's a wait and see approach with him.

You must be a glass half full kind of guy, this is really taking strides in making the B1G more competitive.... The guage will be how many points did you allow sparty to score with a shutout being the norm. Better start picking up 2 QB's a year, depth will be an absolute need from here on out.

Here's all you need to know ...

1. Urbie had carte blanche to hire anyone and chose not to retain Bollman. He hired Iowa State's OC instead.

2. After Bollman was released by OSU, no other team jumped on him as an OC and he ended up settling for the OL coach position at a moribund program (BC) with a HC on the hot seat.

3. BC continued on its downward spiral despite hiring Bollman. Accordingly, the HC was fired after one more season and BC brought in a new HC (from Temple). Like Urbie, he didn't retain Bollman either.

4. After being released by BC, Bollman was hired by Darrell Hazell to be the OL coach at Purdue. Not the OC, but the OL coach. And remember that Hazell was on staff with him before, too, but much more recently than Dantonio.

5. OSU's biggest rebuilding project under Urbie is the OL. The talent and depth is far behind where it should be for a program of OSU's stature.

IMO if this guy has any proven talent, maybe it's as an OL coach though the poor condition of OSU's depth chart definitely raises some flags regarding even that. He's totally unproven as an OC (his one year actually calling plays and running the offense at OSU without the Vest was a disaster). The people who should have access to the best info about him and his time at OSU (Urbie and Hazell) didn't hire him as an OC. Urbie, in fact, didn't hire him at all. And, apparently, he's a poor recruiter to boot. Idk what criteria Dantonio used when screening candidates, but Bollman looks like an awful choice on paper.
