I have no idea how good or poor this hire is.. I really don't know that much about him..
He was OSU's OC from 01-11, so that means he has a NT ring and multiple BCS rings.. if Tressel was truly calling the plays the entire time, why would he stay on as an OC? (serious question).
Also think it's unfair to look at the 2011 season that included a scandal, their top 4-5 players suspended for a while, a true frosh who can't really throw in a pro-style O.. though I do remember them throwing up tons of points against UM when they basically had their entire personnel..
If he blows as a recruiter, that sucks and that seems to be something Dantonio has put an emphasis on, so it seems strange to hire someone who, if he did come out and say it, that he doesn't like recruiting.. that doesn't sit well with me.. but in terms of actual playcalling, I really have no idea what to expect.
Also should note, MSU still hasn't confirmed this hire and recruits that were asked haven't been told anything.

Michigan was 1-0 when Bollman was running the ship on offense.
Also coaching at tOSU, and coaching at MSU are a different animal all together. Let's not act like success at tOSU assures anything at any other midwest program, especially one that isn't exactly of the top of the totem pole like MSU.
There is a reason Meyer didn't hire him, there is a reason BC didn't retain him, and there is a reason Purdue only hired him as a OL coach. Also he has said himself he doesn't like recruiting.

He called plays for 1 year, I specifically stipulated when he was calling plays.
Tough break on the hire Steve, going to be tough to hype and pump this one.
Here you guys were 12 months ago convinced Dantonio had changed the status of the MSU football program. 1 6-6 season, and Jim Bollman was all it took to convince everyone except the sunshine blowers it was in fact same old Sparty.

Funny to see you trolling in a Spartan thread, you were the guy a few months back that said Izzo was too old and washed up to coach. After we spanked you guys you tucked tail and ran. Good to see you back at it.

I never said Izzo was too old and washed up. I said his best days are behind him ... and they are unquestionably. And I didn't tuck tail and run from anything. I came over to that thread the day after the game and several days after that and it was all one big Sparty trollfest. We lost a basketball game. We lost to a ranked team on the road in a hostile environment. For similar examples, see IU @ Minny and UF @ UT just last night. If you want to act like that loss significantly changes what a great season we're having, be my guest. It doesn't. It was a minor setback. TBH the Wisky loss was tougher because of how it happened. We deserved to win that one.
