a career DC is going to start calling plays on offense? At least there is an answer now as to what keeps you from being a top program.

That was a UM fan's suggestion..

I am a UM fan and Dantonio seemed pretty competent calling the plays himself. Just because he was a career DC doesn't mean he can't adapt and grow.

    Just a thought I had.

Yes I know, and that was the season with JT not being there so Bollman was calling the plays.

Not defending the hire, just trying to understand it. Dantonio obviously knows about Bollman and wouldn't do something to intentionally sink the program.

I find it lol that he's being judged on that one season with a true frosh spread QB under center and some of their best players suspended for a while all while the JT scandal was going on

I also find it roflmao that he was only kept on JT's staff for the glory days of OSU football because 1- the kids liked him and 2- JT didn't like to fire people.

Will he be the only OC? I don't know.. Will he be a good OC? I don't know.. But I do know Dantonio's not going to sabotage his program.. he's not an idiot- if he thinks Bollman with help from Salem/Warner/himself can get the job done, then I'm excited to see what happens in the fall.. It can't be any worse from an offensive standpoint

I have no idea if he is going to be good or not.. and it's still not confirmed by MSU..

However, I find it hard to believe JT kept him around just because the kids liked him for his dominant run in the 2000s.. Clearly he was doing something right..

There was also a history of Gene Smith and the board being tight with the purse strings when it came to assistant coaches. I'm thinking that Tressel was better with the demon he knew than with the demon he didn't.

I will say this, I'm one of the few that thought Bollman was a scapegoat to a lot of Buckeye fans, just llike Fickel was last year for most of the season. That being said, there were an aweful lot of WTF moments with Bollman when it came to recruiting and player development. Bollman is pretty smart when it comes to technique, he struggles with recruiting and player motivation.

For what its worth, there were daily 'fire bollman' threads and every thread had a fire bollman reference for the last 3 or 4 years he was there. At, least it seamed that way.

We are both atheists. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours

Bottom line no one has the kind of resume he has unless he's doing something right. If he really did nothing for 10 years at Ohio State, then hire me. I'll do more nothing than him at half the cost.

No.. that while it shows stats- there was certainly more to it than just that, ie players suspended, JT scandal, Braxton as a true frosh in pro style O

When all the players came back, they threw up 30+ on UM.. and it could have been 50 if not for some wide open overthrows by Braxton

There's 0% chance he is worse than Roushar.. so I like MSU's chances annually against UM

The way I look at it, msu may have found the one person worse than Roushar.

Based on his win percentage against UofM during his 10 years at OSU sign me up.

Well Roushar won 4 in a row against Michigan, that doesn't mean he was good lol.

Yeah but he was still on the coaching staff. That's basically what you're saying about Bollman...he was on the staff that beat Michigan so that means he was a good coach.

Was his title at OSU not OC?

Roushar was good at what he did for those 3 year, OL coach. Playcalling was his weakness.

Have you not heard from multiple sources that he didn't call the plays until his last season in Columbus?

    His title was still OC..

You are talking about Roushar who was an OL coach as the same thing as being the OC someplace else.

The two are not the same is my point.

Can't compare an OC to an OL coach.
