A team who already sorely lacks the ability to defend hires a coach who has no idea what defense is.

    Great fit. LULZ

My exact reaction. The offense was a problem, but the defense or lack thereof was the main one.

How is it a better fit?

It's not a surprise Phil wins so many rings BTW, and has such a high percentage of his teams win championships. Guy will retire unless his roster is stacked. IMO overrated coach, not GOAT.

what are u going to do with steve nash in the triangle? these guys could not figure out the princeton offense so how are they going to figure out the triangle. there are maybe 3 or 4 guys on the team that know the triangle. with d'antoni, the lakers will be able to do what they do best. with nash, kobe, howard and gasol, there's no way the lakers cant score points. this system will also help guys like meeks and jamison. i love phil but he was asking for a ton and he would have only been around for 1 year more than likely

D'Antoni's system is traditionally horrible for SG's, as they asked to be primarily spot up shooters. Needless to say, that won't work for Kobe.

Also his system is fast paced "7 seconds or less", with an average of like like 35 in the starting lineup, and a terrible bench that doesn't exactly like a match made in heaven. Old, slow guys running an upbeat offensive systems sounds like a quick way to tire them out.

Also a guy who doesn't teach defense who has a lineup full of non-athletic old players also sounds like a disaster.

we will see. no1 cares what kobe thinks anyway. just waiting on him to retire so we can spend that 30 mil on at least 2 players instead of 1.

Agree Red Auerbach won ten titles with little talent...as did Wooden. +1 for solid point...

    Did I say that?

Lakers will regret this hire soon enough.

    Good news for the Heatles.

You didn't need to. You and I are on the same page from a cerebral standpoint...besides...no other coaches belong in the convo...so unless you miss trolled....we are locked in. Hence the plus 1. At least we Laker Fams can talk smack until the Playoffs....

Then again maybe you were just deflecting since you didn't think you could win the conversation...biggrin

True, I thought you were being sarcastic, my bad.

Phil is one of the best, but he hasn't done anything unless he has a roster filled with studs.

D'antoni will adjust the system for the players he has at his disposal and we will see a lot of pick and roll with Nash and Gasol/Howard. Also while it will be a more up-tempo system I doubt 7 seconds or less will make a return. We don't have the spot up shooters for it at all.

Also I don't get the bashing of his defense. In Phoenix his teams were in the top half of defensive efficiency pretty much every year. The reason they gave up a ton of points were because they scored so quickly so opposing teams had more possessions. If you look at it purely from a points standpoint, then yea it looks as if they sucked. But looks at things like points per possession or defensive efficiency and it isn't that bad.

D'antoni has also reached out to Nate McMillan to be his defensive coordinator. You and I know what a difference a defensive coordinator can make (Mattison...) so it isn't like this team will be the worst defense in the league if they get him.

Lastly, I don't think this makes them the favorites for an NBA title, the Heat are still the favorites until someone knocks them off (I didn't think they were the favorites with Mike Brown or potentially Phil Jackson either).
