Lane Kiffin meeting with Silas Redd

  • LOL. Which USC fan made that huge thread about how scummy it was for Illinois coaches to go to the PSU campus?

    I guess by USC standard kiffin = scum

  • Not a Kiffin fan by any stretch but going to meet with a player you've had ongoing dialogue with is a bit different than sending a whole staff to corner players coming out of the athletic facility. Not that I really care either way but I would hope our staff would do the first and not the latter if we were going to attempt to bring one in.

    Ah ok. Well they should be in good shape then. I don't know how many coaches it takes to abduct a D1 football player and force him onto a plane to their campus, but I know how many they are going to use. That's a handy bit of information to have right there.

  • KABC radio 790am is reporting that the meeting between Silas and Coach Kiffin is in L.A.

    Tad different than camping out on the Penn State campus.

    Would love to have him, and we need him, but I hope he sticks with Penn State.

    Fanbases critical of Lion fans on twitter conveniently forget their own fans behavior on the same social networks.

    At least with Penn State fans, they're experiencing a very recent, deep hurt by this whole fiasco...not the best situation to be in to judge an entire fanbase on.

    Well not only is Lepper a moron, but he's also a liar. I just checked all tweets to Silas in the past hour and I only found 2 negative tweets, basically telling him not to be a traitor. A few USC fans telling him to come to USC (no problem there), an ND fan telling him not to go to USC, and PSU fans saying anything from dont go please, your my favorite, if you leave we understand, and you are PSU.

    Btw, Silas told O'Brien earlier today he wants to stay, but is just checking his options.

    Big difference between being on campus and ambushing players as they leave the football building or waiting outside their apartments until they leave to talk to them than scheduling a private meeting.

    We have an unusual mixed bag regarding Silas...we could use him, but many of us feel it's just not right - we've been there.

    I really think that most of us will ultimately applaud him if he sticks with Penn State.

  • I have no problem with Kiffen meeting with Silas off campus (and no where close to State College). It is completely different than having your coaching staff camp out in SC and harass players to the point where they don't want to leave the football building.

    If Silas goes to USC, it will hurt. I understand it, but he was one of the leaders on the team and many players looked up to him.

    We have about 80% of the team saying that they will stay right now. If we keep 90%, with all the pressure from the outside, that would be pretty remarkable.

  • It's really a business decision for Redd.

    Play out the season and gain goodwill of the fans or transfer to a contending NC team with all of the attention of being a tail back at USC.

    I just hope he makes a decision he never regrets.

    What I heard was the coaches from Illinois contacted the coaches from PSU and inquired about some players they wanted to talk to. PSU coaches gave the go ahead, and Illinois coaches set up shop in a business (probably Starbucks or something) and told the players if they were nterested in Illinois, they could come meet with them at said location. Not quite stalking. Players showed up on their own.
