lulz, no. Why would we blow a gasket over this?

  • I've watched their film and have seen both run track this year.....I'll preface with I'm glad both have verbaled to Bama but I can't see how Altee Tenpenny is rated ahead of Tyren Jones. 5 star based on a SPARQ Combine?

1.Production- Jones had a top 3 All-Time season for a RB in Georgia's largest class with 2,375 rushing yards and 33 rushing TDs and over 3,000 All Purpose Yards and 38 Total Yards. Ask Carl Lawson about the 310 All-Purpose Yards and 5 TDs by HALFTIME that Jones dropped on his Milton squad in Round 1of the 2011 Georgia AAAAA playoff game between Walton & Milton. Not to mention Jones left 4-5 games during 2011 at halftime due to large leads. Tenpenny had "solid" production as a 10th grader and didn't play in 2011

    2. Competition- Jones plays in Georgia AAAAA which had 14 different teams that were Nationally ranked in a Top 100 poll last season. He led his Walton team to a 14-0 record and a spot in the Georgia AAAAA State Title Game in 2011 where they lost to Robert Nkemdiche led Grayson and finished 14-1 in the best classification in the US.

    3. Durability- RB is the last position you need an injury-proned player. Not saying Tenpenny is injury proned buy he didn't play a snap in 2011.

    4. Prototype- The "prototype" NFL RB is 5'9", 206-215 pounds with BMI in the 30.6-32 range. As an 11th grader Jones is 5'9", 202. The 1st RB selected in the 2011 & 2012 drafts are 5'9. Taller RBs have too much surface area to hit and thus take more impact full hits and are more proned to injury. See Adrian Peterson and Darren McFadden as Exhibits A & B. Also see the top 3 NFL rushers of all-time are 1.5'9", 2. 5'9 1/2", 3. 5'8". The top 2 rushers in the NFL in 2011 are 1. 5'6 1/2", 2. 5'8"........just saying it's not a coincidence. These guys are more durable due to low center of gravity and muscular thickness.

I train athletes and have coached youth track athletes that have competed at National Meets. There is a lot more competition in Georgia, especially metro ATL than Arkansas.....and it's not close.

    5. Speed- Tyren Jones-11.04 for 100m, Tenpenny- 11.50

I just don't see what you guys see. Love to revisit this in 3-4 years.

*****Josh Dobbs- QB, Alpharetta c/o 2013. Most underrated player in the 2013 Class. Wish Bama were recruiting him. Great player with high cerebral acumen and character.****

I agree. Jones is a much better prospect than Tennpenny. Many of the same reasons you mentioned about being excited about Jones, is why UF fans are so excited about kelvin Taylor. 5'10 216. Owns every Florida rushing record. Good hands, power, and cuts on a dime. Top end speed isn't great, but good enough, just like Jones.

To me, Jones and Taylor are the two best RB's in the south this year as far as upcoming seniors are concerned.

Lawson is all about upside. Dude is a perfect fit for a 3-4 imo. Again, not sure what BVG has instore for him, but I don't think he's a natural edge rusher. I'd take LIner over Lawson in that regard. I could see Lawson as a MLB prospect in the mold of Rolando McClain, or an OLB like like the black Clay Mathews

For AU's sake, hopefully BVG uses multiple sets instead of just a straight up 4-3. I was under the impression that AU's defense would be run similar to LSU's, which isn't the best fit for Lawson imo. I remember Lawson saying early in the process that finding a 3-4 defense to play in was a priority of his. Either BVG sold him on that, or explained to him that he doesn't need to play in that defense.

Either way, I agree that he is one of the best overall DE/OLB prospects in the nation this year. It's not normal for HS juniors to be that beastly physically.

Or maybe like Yeldon he realizes playing on an NFL field is better than playing on a pasture. 1 is an aberration, 2 out of 3 is a statement.

  • There is no doubt they pay players and their families, been doing it for many, many years. Yeldon and family got $80,000.00 just to switch. Much more came later. The big Off. tackle a couple years ago that committed to the turds/updikes got $80000.00 then switch to Old Miss. The rec tried to get the $80000 back but was told no and if they didn't like it the rec could go to the ncaa and complain Of course that was the end of that.

    rcollier

  • AUBURN has more people playing in the NFL than turds/updikes. The idea that turds/updikes put people in NFL more than anybody else is BS just like their 14 nc. What a joke.

K dude, you said that twice. Lawson was being recruited by a ton of other teams. Were they incredible evals too? It's not like nobody offered him except AU, then all the sudden he became this big time kid. UF offered him last year. Many others got on him right around the same time AU did.

It's not exactly hard to spot great players in a state you recruit like crazy. Go get an unranked kid out of Idaho and have him blow up in the camp circuit, then we'll talk about incredible evals.

Jon Bullard went from being in the low 100's last year, to being a top 10 DE at the end of the process. Was that "incredible" evaluating by UF's staff? Granted, he was always a five star on rivals from the start, but still. Lawson has been a five star on ESPN this entire time. Not exactly a diamond in the rough. Lawson's a great player, but lets not pretend like a bunch of staffs didn't recognize and recruit him.
