  • Clemson last year. Lost 3 of their last 4 games by 21+ points or more. Got 70 hung on them in the BCS Bowl.

I'm just stunned PSU won 8 games their first year back after a 14 year break...remarkable whistling

  • Illinois in the 08' Rosebowl. If I recall they were the 3rd or 4th place B1G team ranked some where over 20th.

Lost all respect for the Rosebowl after that game. The 'granddaddy' turned itself into just another BCS bowl after that stunt.

Wisconsin at 8-5, finished 3rd place in their division but were granted a berth because the 2 teams ahead of them were sanctioned (tOSU and PSU).

In their defense, they hung 70 on a 10-2 Nebraska team and lost 3 games in OT, so they're probably a little better than their record. Still . . . . Big 10 = giant fail this year.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

  • Here's the way I see....Any team not in the top 10. I don't care what conference you are or are not from, what region your in, how big or mall your stadium is. The top ten should be in those games. Not some conf champ, not some team who has deep pockets, the top 10. The top 2 should play and the bowl committee should put the other 8 together in games that woud be regionlly accepted. Its that simple. They did what was needed to be in the top 10 so they should play in a bcs bowl, period, end of story.

ehh...at the time...12-0, heiman candidate QB, they beat Boise that year.

I agree not super-worthy but not at the same level as these other teams

Yeah, had their QB not been high out of his mind on pills that game probably would've been within a couple of TD's. That UH team had a good track record the two seasons leading up to that game, just had a concussed and drug induced leader at the wrong time.

I disagree...last thing I ever would want to see is two teams from the same conference playing, unless they earn the spot in the championship game.

If playoffs weren't coming, I would say

    10 total spots:
take champions from top 5 (SEC, Big12, B1G, Pac12, ACC)
If there are undefeated team(s) from a non-big 5 conference, the highest ranked one gets in...
remainder of top 5, regardless of conference affiliation
take the highest ranked non-conference champions with a max of 3 teams from one conference
    ^
This would solve the issue of the team who doesn't win their division getting in over the team that loses in the conference championship game: i.e. UGA, UF this year

My hypothetical situation would result in (w/Ohio State eligible):
    Championship - (1) ND v. (2) Bama
    Sugar - (4) UF v. (5) Oregon
Fiesta - (6) Kansas State vs. (7) UGA
Rose: (8) Stanford vs. (3) Ohio State
Orange: (12) FSU vs. (11) OU

Looks pretty effin good to me...but I am fine with the playoffs too rockon

  • See ifinnen, I just don't like the tie-ins....Nobody should be guarenteed a spot, you should have to earn it. Being a conference champion of a weak conference shouldn't get you in. I think FSU is a very good team this year, but they didn't earn a spot in a bcs game. If they had beaten NC State, they would have a much better case. I think we could agree, as this thread does, there is multiple teams every year who don't earn the spot. I love the tie-ins with the non bcs bowls. I like big 10-pac 10 games here and there, acc sec, etc...But the BCS should be about the best 10 teams, not conf champs, not automatic bids, the best 10 whoever that may be in any given year.

Cue any Arkansas fan or SEC homer saying Ohio State in the 2011 Sugar Bowl in 3...2...1...

Actually, in all serious, I'd say both Ohio State and LSU in the 2008 NC game. How many teams had to lose in the last week for them to back in? Not saying they weren't BCS game caliber teams, just that neither of them belonged in the big dance.

    Meh...I disagree

Since, in the current system, unless you are #1 or #2, the bowl games don't have championship implication. Since that is the way it is, conference champions should be rewarded and there should never be rematches.

Competitively, I want 4 super conferences, and the winners go to the playoffs...if not, balance out the other games so the best from around the country get to play each other as a reward for a good year

I think both of them belonged, and my reasoning is...

Who else should have made it that year? Or...who proved that they deserved a shot over either of those teams?
