Lewan is a liar

  • Lewan claims on the Clowney hit that he and the guard are suppose to do a combo block on Clowney. Look at the Slow motion film and he went to block the middle linebacker and he went behind Clowney. There was no Combo Block called like he claimed. It looks like the TE looks lost like he was trying to block Clowney. Also the pulling guard also missed Clowney as well. Just admit you got beat.

    if he went to block the lb, then how did he "get beat"?

  • He claimed in interviews he audible for a combo block with the Guard inside on Clowney on that play. Does that look like he was trying to do a combo block with the Guard. I don't see it.

    Exactly. It was supposed to be the TE and a pulling OG in a double team on Clowney while Taylor Lewan blocked the LB downfield and created a lane for the RB (Smith). Unfortunately, the TE missed his assignment (he went after the LB along with Lewan instead) and the OG was way too slow to get over and block Clowney all by himself. It was a dumb call against a player as quick as Clowney. Lewan had his hands full with Clowney all day and I believe the TE was a true freshman (Williams). It was not a missed assignment by Lewan. He was supposed to block the LB.

    I haven't seen the interview you are talking about. But I saw the play and I've read interviews with the coaches about how the blocking was supposed to go. The TE screwed up and the play call was iffy, but normally the OC calls out the blocking assignments not the LT so I don't think you can even blame TL for that. He was probably just relaying the call made be someone else and the TE didn't get the message or misunderstood it.
