Solid way to enter the discussion. Maybe next you'll tell me about how all liberals suck? Or how the only people who know what's really going on in this country are conservatives? Or how Obama wasn't born in the US?
You're a joke if you think you know some inalienable "truth" about the quality of the Obama administration.

It is completely true.
The one thing that gays can't do is get married to each other. Marriage itself is simply a social construct, it does not really mean anything. Gays can still cohabitate with each other, have all the gay sex they want with each other. The only thing is that their relationship is not recognized by the state as a marriage. BFD, it means nothing other than some tax breaks and whatnot. My personal opinion on this matter is that government should not be involved in the marriage business anyways.

If you think that's "it means nothing other than some tax breaks and whatnot" you are kidding yourself.
The social benefits are through the roof. This is like saying "black people had all the same benefits as white people during Jim Crow times because they could do all the same things, they just had to use 'black' facilities. BFD." I remember a whole separate but equal thing being unfair - and in the case of gays, it's specifically "separate and unequal" with respect to financial rights and social rights such as hospital visitations. Do you honestly believe there's any reason a gay person, who would marry if it were legal, should be barred from hospital visitation because he/she is not "family"?
Denying gay marriage is a public statement that the government believes gays deserve lesser rights. Changing that would trigger many people to be less hateful towards gays and open people up. Sure, at first there would be major dissent to the law (just like many people were upset by integration). But over time, the view that gay people and straight people are created equally will alleviate the overt discrimination that gays face. Telling children "gay people can't get married" triggers in some that being gay is wrong, especially if the person tells a child that in a way that makes it sound like a good thing.
Denying benefits beyond tax breaks is unbelievably narrow minded.

There is so much wrong with this. Where to begin?
1. African American rights and treatments during Jim Crow =/= gay rights and treatment in this current time. There are not two things that are similar subject that could be much more different. The fact that you tried to liken one to the other makes you look very silly.
2. The second thing is you seem to think that (a) there is an overarching hatefulness and hostility towards gays and that (b) suddenly such temperments will wither once the federal government makes marriage for gays legal. First, gays in this country are rock stars. Gay is the new black. In the 90s and 2000s, everyone wanted to be like, look like, dress like african americans. They were the trend setters. Now homosexuals are the trend setters. They own virtually every show on your tv, both in terms of actors, characters, and more recently subject matter. Gay is now ubiquitous, trendy, cool, and coveted by the young. There is no more real "gay hate" except in small pockets and those boogie men drummed up by people who want to push out other people's expression (which is ironic) through the use of "that's gay" or the like. (b) Federal legislation causes changes in social paradigm? Please find me an example.
3. You do not seem to have a ready appreciation for the fact that gay marriage is legal in several states. Why is this a Federal matter? The Federal government is supposed to be here to provide interstate travel and commerce (only to the extent states cannot import/export tax one another), to provide a national military, and to resolve conflicts in state law to the US Constitution. The Federal government is not supposed to be your goddamn babysitter, your piggy bank, your warm blanket and milk, your nurturing mega-mother, or the arbiter of things we wish other people would do. It should not be legislating gay marriage. That is for states to decide (and they do). If you want your state to legalize it, then vote for it. If enough of your state friends want it, the bill will pass. If not, move to a state with more like-minded people. The federal government was designed to provide a loose association of individual states with rights and laws that are not entirely uniform (to give people choice among localities).
Keep it up, stupids. Keep wanting the Federal government to do everything. It already wants to (that's how criminal politicians on both sides of the isle keep, grow, and stabilize power for themselves--regardless of party affiliation). That's how we get drone programs monitoring the citizens, a welfare-nation, and eventually approved lists of 24 hairstyles. People that think they can invite their friendly congressman or woman into their home to only do good and then ask them to leave later are sadly mistaken. Government is like the cosmos--always expanding until the next big bang.

BLF,
Bama has been too successful in football. Because of that, I think we should take 50 million from the athletic department and give it to the big east to give out. Also, I think the ACC deserves at least 5 of your MNC trophies so they can have them bc they deserve it just for being alive. It is only Fair because that is the way the world is suppose to be.So go ahead and have your admin wire the money to the big east by April 15 and the ACC will come by to get the trophies by then as well. Sound good?

Oh hell no. I mentioned different laws for different states a few pages back and all the liberals came out and told me how smart they were and how their opinions were facts because they said so. Full faith and credit and shit.

If that was said, then they are ill-informed. Full faith and credit has nothing to do with uniformity of state laws. It has to do with respecting judgments and verdicts rendered against persons crossing state lines or living in other states.
