Liner: Bama will "beat the brakes" off of ND

  • WRobins said...

"Breaks" are a fault, a point of weakness. So, if bama beats the "breaks" off of ND, then Bama will actually make ND better. So, was he saying that ND will beat bama?

    Breaks =/= brakes.

    headslap

"Beating the brakes off" someone is a common slang term used in the south to say that you're gonna beat the hell outta them. TIFWIW

Lol The thread title was definitely a misprint. Thanks for pointing it out.

    The article was correct.

There is no PAC-12 pride because we stand on our own merits, each succeeds or fails on their own. No group think or coattailing on conference accomplishments, and the competition between us is not limited to sports. We have tradition all right, I don't have to defend it, the history speaks for itself - on a national level. The football program is well funded and supported, HC salary, every player position scholarship is endowed, three deep - and has been since the 80s..no need to schedule more than 6-7 home games, or worry about the cost of travel from one end of the country to the other. That does not happen with a bandwagon fanbase.

Oh, I understand the south all right. I have family there, who have lived there much longer than four years. I've traveled all over the south..and people there are as hospitable as they tell everyone they are. They are very quick to tell you how much better they do everything.

Curious, why are you here? Why live in California? One would think if you chose that southern education, you would remain there happily, and miserable here...that is what southerns tell us west coast people...if we spent one day down there, we would never come back here.

I am sorry that you have no reason to feel any pride for your conference. I enjoy watching many of your PAC 12 teams play. I believe Oregan, Stanford and UCLA are programs worth watching and have surpassed USCw. I feel sorry for anyone who has to stand upon the values upon which you are attempting to stand. My friend your stance is very weak and your views of people that you believe are inferior to you, is pitiable. Take a look at yourself in the mirror and ask yourself. Does another region's pride in their strengths and accomplishments diminish me or is it my own actions and attitudes that define me? Be careful lest you reveal your own lack of character by the way you speak of others. It may be the person in the mirror whose values are misplaced. All of the endowments and all of the wealth in California will ever make those from whom they are derived or those to whom they are granted one whit better than any of my neighbors and friends in the South.

One can respect the accomplishments of conference opponents...as THEIR OWN. I've been extremely clear that Stanford is the shining light in CFB as a true athletic/academic university, with no other program in the country even close. When and if the NFL ceases to use universities as farm teams, the student in the student/athlete equation, is very much in discussion. I don't applaud them because they're in our conference - but more so because what they stand for. Same with our respect for Notre Dame, even though they are not in our conference...see the point here?

Don't give me that BS that good neighbors, love of family, God and faith are exclusive to your region, I was born and raised in a quiet and small town with values that are equal to any I have seen or traveled in down south, in almost every state. Farming and ranching communities abound north of Los Angeles, and this area is considered "Reagan Country", he loved it here - and it's values.

Pride in the accomplishments of your regional foes should stand as theirs, with others taking a back seat to those accomplishments, not riding on their coattails. But, I doubt you would understand that. Didn't Mike Riley play for Bama? He said on the radio that SEC football was cutthroat and backstabbing - that would never happen to that degree in the PAC...so, you ride on each others accomplishments, but will turn around and back stab each other to win games? Oh yes, neighborly.

  • It could be that the back stabbing has been reduced a great deal by Kiffin's departure. I am sure that there are some under handed tactics being used by programs that find themselves struggling to recruit against programs with a proven track record. However, your assumptions based on what you yourself do not know but believe might true based on the comments of someone who uses biting remarks to label an entire conference due to hurt feelings for not being considered for a position that he coveted, could be seen by those who do not know you as an attempt to compensate for your own feelings of inferiority. Remember that your own vaunted coach was once a part of the SEC and his tactics while in the SEC were well known. I will not respond again to any more of your passive aggressive attacks. I will pay heed to my departed grandmother's admonition, "you cannot wrestle with a smutty pot without getting smut on you."

DO WHAT?? So Notre Dame, who graduates a higher percentage of their players than any other school, doesn't hold a candle to Stanford when it comes to balancing academics/ athletics?? ND isn't even close???

  • Why did 247 not ask the BAMA commits. No one really gives a rats azz about players going elsewhere. Most picked Alabama which is not a surprise. Those who picked ND do so just like they pick a president - without qualifications and knowledge.

Well, what do you think the Bama commits are going to say? It's more interesting to find out from players that aren't committed, don't you think?

Agreed. If a Bama commit doesn't pick Bama, then there would be severe pressure for a decommitment ceremony to take place amongst fans. lol

  • You are right because with Lame Kiffin, you fail!!! And your team is so great, you can't even pack your stadium!! And yes, you are correct, the south is a much better place to live and raise a family.
