Just qualifying does not earn you a scholarship to OSU.. athletes have to be better than common students. I know people like to assume standards arent very high but for the athletes but they are. I remember talk of him not being able to get into a couple schools... he wouldnt have here either. You guys will take Gibson... we wont if his scripts arent in order.

So you are saying OSU ignores the athletic minimum and creates their own? For example, the athletic minimum at Alabama is no higher than WVU. Any athlete that can get into WVu could have gone to Alabama if they had am offer. Now Saban might make his own standards and only offers kids above his own standards, but they go by the athletic minimum. Same as WVU and many other schools.

I got two words for you.... Maurice Clarett. The question I ask is how are the grade/script requirements different? Its my understanding they are the same. If they are different please explain an tell me where its posted.

NCAA sets the minimum but kids that can get into Our schools arent getting into Elite Div 1 schools.. Stanford isnt taking kids with a 2.3 GPA and 1000 on their SAT. Also not sure what MoC has to do with it.. I can only assume you thought he was a bad student in High School

    But they could...

The bottom line is, if Gibson qualifies for WVU, he qualifies for OSU.... If OSU wants him. 2.3 average, or a 2.0 average if they meet other certain requirements. Athletes are on a different scale than regular students. They adhere to different standards.

Just like Noel Devine getting qualified for WVU. He got the test score up that was making him ineligible. He could have went to FSU, which was the other school he was targeting. FSU let up on him a bit because of his grades. WVU stuck with him. When he made the scores, he went with the school that stuck with him the whole way.

Just like Gibson. If he is eligible for WVU, he is eligible for OSU, according to NCAA guidelines. If OSU does not want to adhere by those guidelines, that is up to them. Saying "he will go to WVU if he doesn't get the grades for OSU" is nonsense.

Where it gets different is institutions like Marshall. They can take props. That is how they get recruits like Cato, Travon Van, and Angelo Jean-Louis. They don't qualify for schools that can't take props.

  • I originally misconstrued your post as meaning that OSU only accepted boy scouts with a high GPA. Hence the Maurice comment. An I highly doubt every student athlete OSU takes is deans list material. If they are congrats.

Gosh no... weve had enough idiots from Glenville to fill a bus....OSU just takes less and less borderline recruits.

I'm not even sure what you are trying to say in that post.

I said that its nonsense for someone to say "He will go to WVU since he won't qualify for OSU". Not saying you said that(I didn't read the entire thread),

Since WVU doesn't accept props, they go by the same athletic scholarship minimum as everyone else does.

That is what I was saying. Some schools stay away from borderline recruits that may not make it in, while other schools like WVU will stick by them and hope they qualify.

He will go to WVU if he doesnt Qualify for OSU...not because WVU is a lesser University but because OSU wont take a borderline kid... Not because we look down our nose. WVU will take him. Same thing with Latwan Anderson until he went full r word...

Latwan went to Miami. Then went full r-word. He did commit to WVU for awhile. Even while he was committed, most the fan base was wondering why he was so screwed in the head. He was a Glenville kid too, right?

Having no talent within our own state almost forces us to do this to have a chance at some of the better ballers.

  • OSU has higher admission standards than the NCAA. Even for athletes. At least that's how I understand it. Don't ask specifics because I don't truly know the intricate details. Some guys on our home board (alums) have explained it before but I'm too lazy to look it up. As I understand, Urban has bargaining rights in his clause to allow a few guys "on the cusp," meaning guys who barely meet the requirements. From the info I've gathered, Gibson isn't anywhere near the requirements to be admitted. He's not even eligible for a player "on the cusp." If the NCAA says 2.0 GPA and certain SAT/ACT, OSU has their own admission for ALL student athletes e.g. 2.5 GPA.

BTW, I'm 99.9% convinced Quick is staying home.
