    Our recruiting staff is beastly.

Seems like I've hear this before.

No fear, we also made coaching a requirement this time. Good lookin out on that one Chizik.

Hopefully. I'll take a NC in year two again... I would repeat Chiz's four years over and over again if it meant we could win a NC in 2014...

What's the JUCO ranks at the QB position look like for next year?

Heard of any highly touted recruits getting kicked out of school after this season?

Dunno but we got about 9 months to find him... Money, drugs, and strippers are ready for this mysterious JUCO QB though.

Wish I had some eligibility left!

  • On a serious note, how long of a leash is Malzahn on? Like what would be considered the "Four Year Plan" that would satisfy fans to keep him around?

IMO bowl games are a requirement. Get a bit more leeway if you win the conference or NC. For the first year I don't expect much and would just love to break 500. For the following three years later I would like to average 9 wins at least. So 8, 9, and 10 wins would be good. I think we are going to lose a lot of recruits and current players... I think there will be quite a few transfers because it seems like Gus already knows that discipline is an issue.

For me I'd like to see a decent bowl game next year with no more god awful blowouts that make me lay in the fetal position in the corner of the room, then competing for the west again in 2014.

He should. He was there when the problems began occurring. Not saying it was his fault.

That's why I feel good about how things are going so far. Not a bunch of grab ass boys giving out hugs all day on the staff.

It won't be the only factor, but one of the factors to whether Gus will be successfull or not will be how much he had to do with that problem. He kind of always seemed like an outsider on that staff, which is probably one reason that he took the first HC job he could when he looked to be a more valuable commodity than a place like Arkansas St would nab.

Honestly, that's one reason I didn't think much of the staff that Chizik put together. It seemed like he got a lot of top recruiters (not saying none of them could coach) and big names in college football, but not a lot of guys that really would work well together. That seems like a strength of Saban's though. Only one (Applewhite) bad hire in his 6 years so far, IMO.

I do believe that Malzhan has been smart about his offensive staff so far based on the hires as far as mixing in guys he has worked with before and some top recruiters. I admit I haven't paid all that much attention to the defensive staff, although I know Ellis Johnson isn't a rock the boat kind of guy.

Lol if you guys say so. Hogs are happy to see him land somewhere. He was a very good person and his dad was head of the Razorback Foundation for a long time so the Horton name has been around for awhile now. Like I said elsewhere he by all accounts is a great man but we are happy that we won't be fumbling the ball as much now. He coached a lot of great RBs but we fumbled way too much.

and this is a coaches fault?

Ellis has brought in Smith and Harbison, who he has worked with in the past. I also dig Gus bringing back two guys that are extremely well thought of in the eyes of Auburn alum from their playing days. Smith has also worked with out Oline coach J. B. Grimes previously as well. I hope the staff blends well, and I just think that Gus has the mentality to be a strong HC.

I like what he's done on both sides of the ball so far. Like you said, offense is his, guys he's worked with or knows, and good recruiters.

I like the defense because they have something like 874 years of combined experience in the SEC. It's a group that Gus knows he can (and will) hand the defensive keys to and then walk away and not have to worry about anything (unless we keep sucking).

If we stop playing like girls....that's a start.

Pat Dye went 5-6 in year one, but you could tell things were different right away. You could tell they were bleeding and running through walls and were happy to do it.

So if we go 6-6 next year and look like that doing it, I'm happy in year one. There is no reason that we shouldn't expect the same kind of improvement Hugh Freeze just pulled at Ole Miss. Or how Baylor improved dramatically throughout the year.

On offense, if someone better than me (a soccer and basketball player) is there to play QB, we should be better right away.

On defense....the blow outs have to disappear. If we lose to our three main rivals again, it better be by 30 points TOTAL, not 30 points PER game.

But then, after year one, it comes down to what it always comes down to....wins. I think if any of the big six programs in the SEC hire the right guy, in most cases you should something like 6, 8, 10 wins in the first three years (assuming things were bad when they took over).

If you're lagging much behind that track....you're probably looking for a new coach in year four or five and half a decade is wasted.
