Lulz, straight lies right here

  • 7. Marcus Davis, Va. Tech, WR: The Hokies have produced more than their share of jaw-dropping 40 times in recent years, and they've done so again. Still, even the most skeptical would come away impressed with Davis, a 6-4, 228-pound former QB-turned-wideout, who set a VT record with a 44-inch vertical to go along with a 4.37 40, which for our purposes trumps (barely) the case of 260-pound DE James Gayle, who posted a position-record 39.5-inch vertical and a 4.44 40-time.

A 260 pound DE runs a 4.44 40 ? I doubt it...... 40 inch vert too ? roflmao according to these obvious lies these 2 would have been top 5 picks this past year

  • Those have to be hand timed, and those numbers would be some of the beat at the combine if they are real.

Or just made up, either way its total BS

James Gayle running a low 4.4 is just pure comedy and borderline insanity that they would even try to lie that drastically

Its even more embarrassing that this writer for CBS just bought it and included it in his terrible article

Pretty much everything in that article is "hand-timed" or just completely embellished.

  • Not a bad list or nothing, just pure lies on Marcus Davis and James Gayle

If Davis was really 230 and that fast with a 44 inch vert then everybody would have him as the #1 WR

The Freak List: The 10 craziest athletes in college football - NCAA Football - CBSSports.com News, Scores, Stats, Schedule and BCS Rankings

The TCU guard who benches 580 pounds? Freak. The 6-foot-4 Vols wideout with the 41-inch vertical? Yep, Freak. Bruce Feldman lists the 10 craziest athletes currently on college rosters, starting with SMU's 6-8 Estonian monster Margus Hunt.

Having spent way too much time with college "spring testing" myself; I'd bet every 40 time, VJ, and bench press/squat/clean max listed is embellished. John Simon is a straight freak, but I'd be shocked if he ran a sub 4.8 at the combine(listed at 4.6). Same thing with Margus Hunt, Devin Taylor, Marcus Davis...Unless it is an electric time or measurement from a track meet(ie. Justin Hunter, Goodwin, Marquis Lee), it's exaggerated.

  • Nobody believes the 40 times would hold up under laser timing. Both are big guys with good speed, great athletes, and the verticles are legit. 44 verticle is pretty incredible for anybody. 39.5 for a 260 pounder is pretty unheard of.

    Yeah cause its a lie

Im shocked you actually believe it but its more you just wanting to believe since its your guy

Gayle ain't that freakish, he is your standard run of the mill VT DE who will flame out in the NFL, he certainly isn't some superbeast freak who is setting records for his athletic ability

He would be lucky to run a 4.6 next year and I will bet you right now his Vert is no better than 34 inches max

Yeah well Corey Moore wouldn't, nor would any of the other nameless over-rated busts at DE that have left recently who VT fans hyped up with no regard for facts and reasonable thinking

James Gayle is no Bruce Smith

Tapp and dude for the Steelers are average players too

My only point here is Gayle is no super-freak, he just isn't.... he is nothing more than a solid DE with good athletic ability

Not " never seen before " type athletic ability

  • Look at any handful of recruits. Coaches will boast they've got "legit 4.4 speed" only to find out once they're one campus, they run a 4.67.

Ok, Gayle is an average DE, with highly inflated measurables, and all spring testing numbers were falsified. You may now step away from the ledge.

He might be better than average, he is young and still has plenty to prove

He just isn't some 40 inch jumping almost 4.3 running superstar freak unlike anything we have seen before from a 260 pound DE

That much is obvious and all Im really commenting on in a serious matter

Step away from the ledge ? what ledge ? just calling bullshit bullshit, its what I do

All Devin Taylor's "freak" stats were jumping based, which are somewhat supported by high school track results. He's also had multiple pick 6's in coverage to support some of the lateral movement claims. His may be exaggerated but aren't unfounded.
