It's less top heavy, but now every team is good so it's deeper than ever.

More like most of the teams are average. Toronto will be the favorite. Red Sox, Yankees, Orioles, or Rays really don't scare anyone. If the Reds, Tigers, Giants, Angels, or Dodgers were in the AL East I would pick any of those teams to win it by 3 or more games ahead.

  • The Blue Jays are a talented bunch but I'm not sure how adding a few risky players like Dickey will make them elite.

They don't need to be elite. They just need to be good to win the AL East this season.

Disagree. New York is a few injuries away from being a bad team. Boston is a bad team. The Orioles seemed to get breaks when they needed it last year and I'm not sure if that's going to continue into this year. Toronto is probably the best team, and even at that it all depends on how their new additions perform or else it will be the same results as last year. Tampa is an odd team as they always have the pitching, but they'll need to find a consistent source of offense if they want to make the playoffs.

Any teams could collapse with injuries these days. The Yankees are old, but they aren't going away anytime soon. Boston is an unknown but the team chemistry should improve a lot this year. As for the Orioles, they dealt with a lot of injuries last year and moved past that. Yes, they won some close games, but that wasn't without having to fill in some big holes. Tampa is always consistent and their pitching will keep them in there along with a healthy Longoria this year.

The Yankees aren't that good right now. Jeter is coming off a major injury, A-Rod is out, Tex is aging quickly and isn't the same at the plate anymore, Granderson isn't what he was when he first came to the Yankees, Gardner will never be anything special, Ichiro is older than Babe Ruth, CC is getting to the point where he will start breaking down easier, Pineda is coming off shoulder injury, and really the rest of the team outside of the bullpen is nothing special.

Chemistry is big in baseball, but it won't mean much with the Red Sox' current setup.

Where is the pitching going to come from on a consistent basis for the Orioles? The hitting isn't terrible, but is definitely reliant on the ole 3 run homer a game method.

If the Rays can find a way to protect Longoria at the plate this year, they could be good, but I just don't see them competing consistently among the upper echelon teams in the AL, let alone the MLB as whole.

    Jason Hammel
    Wei-yin Chen
    Chris Tillman
    Miguel Gonzalez
    Zach Britton
    Jake Arrietta
    Steve Johnson
    Brian Matusz
    Dylan Bundy
    Jair Jurijens (unlikely)

We'll do what we did last year and mix and match out of this group and whoever else we may add. Combine that with a lineup as deep as any and the best bullpen in baseball and we are much better than 14th.

The Jays already had a pretty decent core anyway, all these guys were just missing pieces.

Reyes was the leadoff hitter and speedster the Jays needed. Also a big upgrade at SS over Escobar who was a cancer. Bonifacio is solid depth, and Melky could be a decent addition and is better than Travis Snider.

Josh Johnson, RA Dickey, Mark Buerhle >>>>>>>>>>>>> Henderson Alvarez, Chad Hutchinson, Kyle Drabek

Jays also improved their bullpen so far this off-season, and gain back Sergio Santos for injury.

We might not be a great team, but we are AL East favorites IMO.
