Mack Brown and Texas

  • Recruited Johnny Manziel, RG3, and Michael Crabtree to play defense and didn't recruit Andrew Luck? Bad luck or terrible evaluation skills? A little bit of both?

Briles at Houston was the only coach in Texas to recruit RG3 as a QB. Mack recruited Luck. He wasn't interested. Mack (read Muschamp) recruited Manzel as a DB.

  • Little of both imo. Also have to remember that initially they didn't want Vince Young as a QB either. Mack had to be convinced to take him as a QB. To be fair to Texas, it wasn't like Manziel had a gluttony of major offers to play QB. TAM got lucky. Nothing wrong with that. RG3 was just a phenomonon that Baylor made a great decision on. He was an athlete for most people during his recruitment. Texas just missed on Luck along with most of the country. It happens. Asking questions like this is like asking how did schools miss on Terrell Owens or even better how did Auburn and Bama completely wiff on Demarcus Ware? Some kids develop late or are just too raw at the time to garner major offers.

Yeah DeMarcus Ware and Osia Umenyiora both played at Auburn High School, but Auburn didnt recruit either one of them. That makes me want to puke

  • Remember that high school coaches will use the most athletic kid as qb not the position that the player is best suited for. Many "athletes' listed on these recruiting sites are quarterbacks who don't have the talent to play qb at the major college level.

  • What's up with Mack wanting black or guys that can run to not play QB? Dude better get up with the times.

EDIT: on Luck, kid has an eidetic brain. He was going to go to a school with the best education possible that also fields a good team in a major conference. Cannot get on Mack for losing out on Luck

TO couldn't qualify. That's why he went FCS.

I Believe Auburn and Love IT...4 Life! You should prepare yourself to live with the consequences of your decisions, whatever they may be.

  • I wonder if we dont look back at some point in the next 3-4 years and say the same thing about the QB's in this year's class...

    Swoopes- Texas
    Kenny Hill- A&M

One is a good QB....the other is not. If you arent sure which is which, I wouldnt go off the prospect rankings ;)

    stir8ag

  • Mack Brown also passed on Greg McElroy and Chase Daniels as well who are both in the NFL.

He may have messed up again taking Swoopes over JT Barrett.

Guess A&M just got lucky with their last TWO Qb's then....see Ryan Tannehill (top 10 draft pick last year) also.

The biggest idiot on the internet? Why did Les Miles shift Shepard to WR. Does he think that black guys can't play QB?

Biggest idiot or did my post offend you? Probably the ladder. It's a fact that Mack recruits QBs that can run as athletes and NOT QBs.. Like the other guy said, someone had to beg for him to get Vince at QB which is true. Do you really not see a trend of Mack recruiting athletic QB's not at QB??

Miles has has Jefferson and J-Russell so your point about Miles doing the same is just you lashing out bc my post got you all pissy.

If Tannehill was that great for you at QB, why did he play WR for 2 1/4 years then?

    Probably the ladder.

I fear he is a special needs child.

No one had to beg Mack Brown to let Vince Young play quarterback little one. Miles lies to black athletes to get them to commit and then screws them when they get on campus. Mack Brown was honest with Sheppard. Miles lied. As simple as that.
