Mack Brown not allowing OVs for committed kids now?

  • Is that true UT fans?

If so that seems a bit desperate of a move.

Bama stole his best recruit, not the SEC

  • I actually wish more teams would do this .. I understand going through the recruiting process but don't commit if you aren't 100% sure. Just my opinion

Then coaches need to stop putting so much pressure on kids to commit so early to make sure they have that spot.

Early signing period would basically be for kickers and fat linemen. Which would probably make it "Early Grayshirt Agreement Day".

Not necessarily. It would be great for guys like Jonathan Allen who knew all along what they wanted. That's a 5 star guy who just had no use for the drama. I think it would be a great thing for both the coaches and the players. The only ones who would take advantage of it would be those mature enough to understand the finality of their decision and didn't have any desire to change their mind. Of course they could write in some exceptions for major coaching changes, sanctions, etc. but I think it's a great idea overall.

I also don't think that coaches would offer the early signing LOIs to lower rated kids who just wanted to secure their spots. It would force coaches to be more selective with the offers they give out, which again, is a good thing.

They are, and coaches are also allowed to not reserve their spot in the class. How bad does a kid want his spot reserved?

In general, I think an early signing period would only benefit coaches and not players, and the deck is already stacked in the coaches favor.

I think that's how it should be. The kids are getting an opportunity for a free education and a chance to play the sport they love. Aside from financial compensation (which I think the NCAA should begin to allow) they shouldn't get any other advantages.
