Mad Men – Season 5

    Ha, yep.

I was like... this is either a dream or this show is taking an insane turn.

Yeah that would have definitely been a "jump the shark" moment for Mad Men. It was another great episode.

Same. I actually thought the episode was great. I loved the Peggy vs. Roger banter. Thought it was really good. Draper is still the man.

Last week's ep was very weak, but they came back strong last night. This season has one motif in particular that kicks ass: the less Betty Draper there is, the better the episode. Unfortunately, Joan's decision at the end will probably force her mother to be in the show even more. thumbdown

  • Ok so two things that stuck out to me last night: 1)Who was the chick from the elevator? I've seen every episode multiple times and I don't remember her from past seasons. 2) What is going to become of the new copywriter? There has been a lot of focus on him early on (similar to Peggy in the 1st season) which leads me to believe he is going to become a major character at some point or he is going to have a prominent storyline.

  • The Laine/Pete fight was hilariously awkward and amazingly satisfying. Campbell needed to get his bell rung, I just thought Roger would be the one to do it.

I liked the interaction with Don and Pete in the cab.

It is interesting to see Don really trying to change. Still don't think it sticks but still interesting.

On the one hand, it was kind of cool to see Don being a decent man and just having fun at Pete and Trudy's shindig. On the other hand, it was really friggin' weird.

From an advertising standpoint, I'm a little disappointed SCDP won't be getting the Jaguar account.

Oh, and has anyone else seen the previews (or the first episode) of The Pitch? Who knew I'd get 2 ad shows on TV?

  • Peggy finally grew too big for her britches. And I think this episode pretty much cements the idea that Don can either be successful in his personal life or his professional life, never both.

Just got around to watching the episode. I believe you are right.

This episode was a little confusing at first as I didn't realize there were 3 different stories all jumping off from the same time. Once I realized that I was okay but at first I was very confused.

When Don called Peggy and was clearly flipping out I was like what the hell? Are you going to explain what that was about.

Yes. That was fantastic. His reactions to his hallucinations were pure gold.

The thing is, Don wasn't always like that. Remember back to the episode that showed when he first joined Sterling-Cooper. He was young, passionate, and a pretty decent guy. We've seen sort of why he's the way he is now, but we haven't REALLY seen what changed him.

I thought Roger's hallucinations were hilarious. The liquor bottle/cigeratte/yankees game were all equally great. His chick is hot though... I expect him to be back inside of red before seasons end. I like them as a couple anyway. Peggy giving random handjobs was funny to see. She is coming more & more like ad men by the day. Don't like the new Draper btw...

Yeah the Russian vodka was hilarious. I also think they are setting up Roger and Joan.

As far as Draper I think it is inevitable that he reverts back to his old ways.

  • Don and Megan sealing the Heinz deal at dinner was fan-friggin-tastic.

  • Oh, and Pete's line to Megan's father about being too kind and that's what he does everyday? Priceless.

That made my pantheon of Mad Men sales pitches. They have been on fire, the last 3 episodes have all been perfect.

  • I am stealing this line (paraphrased) but, this image in the penultimate scene said more than almost any other show can in 3 pages of dialogue.

It is the ultimate charcter show. Just amazing how well this show is written.

  • Roger is the King... he's even got his ex-wife doing him favors.

BTW that's his wife IRL (Mona).
