Manziel's Heisman sign of SEC power

It's irrelevant to say that until those teams play, that's my point. Congrats on the undefeated season.

I agree, I was simply responding to another post.

Can we agree that Ohio State took advantage of a very weak OOC and a down B1G?

Yes, I agree. Much like Michigan did last year. But I also know Ohio State got leaps and bounds better as the season went on..

  • Great article.

  • I only have 1 response to that. It must be nice to play down south where it's warm and near perfect conditions almost every week. Playing up North is a totally different ball game. Not saying, the SEC teams currently aren't better then the lions share of the B1G, but cold weather smash mouth football is totally different then the style played down south. For instance, up North, you can lose games on a fumble because your RB is so cold he can't feel his arms, or the QB's hand is so numb he couldn't properly grip the ball. Anything can happen and it's a lot less cut and dry then the SEC style of play. It seems kid's nowadays are bred to think that football is a warm weather sport and that the SEC feeds on that. It's alot easier to convince a kid to go somewhere where he's only a few hours (if that) from spending the day on a warm beach in December surrounded by gorgeous women in bikinis. Try making that argument if you're a school like Wisconsin, Penn State and even moving outside of the B1G schools like Syracuse and Boston College where there is a good chance you'll be spending your entire winter surrounded by snow. I don't know about any of you, but if I was a kid being recruited to play college football, I would look at nothing but schools that play atleast half of their season in cold weather. You're best players are guys who can rough it and play well in any condition especially cold weather. If these kids want to make it in the pro's they should fine tune their skills in the cold climates. If you can play in the bone chilling cold of Lambeau in the middle of December effectively and especially without fumbling, you're going to do nothing but improve your chances of a longer career. If you can play in the severe cold, you can play in anything!
Now in stating that, is it the B1G's fault that they don't play in tropical climates most of the season??? Is it the B1G's fault that these kid's are less likely to want to play in cold weather. Is it the B1G's fault that TV networks such as ESPN ram it down these kid's throats the SEC is the best conference in America (even if they are) which aids largely in the favor of the SEC. The answer is, No, it's not and it's beyond their control. Let's face it, these upper tier talents all have aspirations of the NFL and choose schools who they feel will help get them there. In my opinion, if they really have their future's in the back of their mind's when choosing schools, maybe some of them should choose to go up north and learn to play a different brand of football instead of basking in the sun all the time!
Not only that, the Bowl games are a joke! It must be nice for all those SEC teams to play what is in most cases pretty much a home game while their opponents have to travel 1000 miles plus. These neutral game sites really aren't that neutral! Let's see how some of those teams feel about coming up to State College or Ann Arbor to play Ohio State in a championship game. The every day SEC game plan goes right out the window just like it does for the B1G playing a bowl game down there. Let's not forget that they can carry most of their home crowd to the games because it's only a few hundred miles to travel. It's not just the SEC though with the bowl games........I can't discount that a good UCLA season puts them in a literal home game for a BCS bowl and close enough for USC as well beings they have to travel a mere 15 minutes to Pasadena!

Bottom line is, all of these conferences play a different style of game, some more similar then others. Each league is good in their own ways. The only way to ever put these arguments to rest is to have a team switch from conference to conference to see if they can run the gauntlet. Is an SEC team more likely to do so, I'm sure they are. Change the stage and the weather conditions though and it'll make a bigger difference then you can imagine and those odds definitely decrease. Let's not forget, B1G teams also recruit to match up or over power a match up against another B1G team first and foremost before they recruit to match up to an SEC team they have a high chance of not seeing during the season. They build to beat the teams on their schedule not to beat any vast number of schools they could possibly face in a bowl game! Do they want to build their team to where they think they'll be competitive against an Alabama or a Florida, of course they do, but that isn't who is on their mind when building their teams. The first goal is to win the conference, if there is a chance for something more, then so be it

I'm sure Bama fans were doing the same when someone brought up the possibility of A&M beating them..Don't become one of those homer SEC poster types. I do seem to recall you being pretty upset when Sumlin was named your HC, things change.

  • A freshman coming in with a team from a different conference, shredding the SEC defenses and winning a Heisman is a sign of the SEC's power? shrug

LOL! The SEC homers are in full force..

Yes we know the SEC is the best conference, wouldthe top 6 beat Ohio State? No, that is a down right stupid statement... Top 3? Maybe but Ohio State can play with any team in the Nation... You can point out anything you want but guess what? 12-0 doesn't lie! There's only 1 other team that can say that... And they aren't in the SEC.

No. No it can't. Going undefeated in the Big10 is equivalent to going undefeated in the MAC conference. Ohio State = Kent State without the cool helmets.

Not true. Plenty of us said that aTm was our trap game and come at a terrible time in our schedule. No one was laughing at them.

Winning what? The Big10? I'd be equal impressed if you walked into a polio rehab center and started kicking walkers out from under people.
