Marlins Dump "Big-Time" Players on Blue Jays in Trade

  • mriderblue12 said...

Jays baby! Huge trade for us and sets up well for next year.

Reyes is exactly what we needed in the lineup. Lead off hitter with some speed to set set the table for Joey Bats and Edwin. Our offence is going to be dope.

Johnson will probably be our 2nd or 3rd starter which is rock solid. Buerhle is a decent 4th starter.

The AL East is going to be an absolute gauntlet. There are legitimately 4 teams that could win it, and I could see both wildcards coming out of the East. Also, as a Yankees fan, it makes me so incredibly happy that the odd team out is the Red Sox.

I think the Sox are in a better spot than NY. I just dont think NY has the pitching to win the WS next year and they are about to get screwed on some long term deals. Sure they have money but guys like CC, Tex, Arod and after this season probably Cano will take up close to $100 million a year alone. I have seen that $189 is the numbter they want to stay under.

Granted the Sox have a long way to go but they werent as bad as last years record. At the time of the trade they were only a few games under .500 and thats with Lester and Buch struggling, Beckett was awful, Crawford only played a few games and Gonzo didnt have a typical year either. After the trade Middlebrooks and Papi were gone and it was a AAA team out there. If, big if, Lester and Buch get back to career norms they have a chance at the playoffs. I think they sign or trade for a SP (maybe two) and they will score runs. That wasnt even a problem last year. The East is tough though.

As far as the Jays trade goes I just dont get the Jays hype. They got a soft tosser in Beurhle who is down right brutal vs the Sox and Yanks and most of that came in his prime years in Chi. Johnson was 2-8 on the road last year with an ERA close to 5. Almost 2 full runs higher than at home. In the past 6 years he has only pitched over 88 innings in 3 of them. Reyes is good but injury prone. How does he age with bad hamstrings to start with?

Probably because we won 70 games with a pitching staff that consisted of absolutely nothing, a bullpen that licked nuts, and Joey Bats being injured, plus other guys having disappointing years.

Jays offense and starting staff is legit, if you can't see this you are blind.

Name some teams that have a better starting 4 then Josh Johnson, Ricky Romero, Brandon Morrow, and Mark Buerhle.

    Reds.

    Cueto
    Latos
    Arroyo
    Bailey

I think Buerhle is better than Arroyo, and Morrow/Bailey is a push. Cueto/Latos > Johnson Romero though.

I'm not saying that the Jays staff is the best, just saying it has potential to be incredibly good.

He asked why the hype. The hype is because their offense is legit, and now their staff on paper seems legit also.

Need some arms in the pen, and LF though. Luckily we still got plenty of trade chips (Arrencibia, Gose are main two) and some cash still to spend.

Rogers is finally opening their wallets for us, it's about fricking time. Company is filthy rich and a bunch of crooks.

Oh I agree. I really like that starting 4 for Toronto, and the offense will be much improved by adding Reyes and Bonifacio. That is some serious speed on the base paths right there.

    No doubt.

Plus add a healthy Joey Bats, Lawrie hopefully building off a disappointing rookie year, and Colby continuing his improvement since his trade from St. Louis; and the Jays have a stacked offense.

No reason we can't compete in AL East next year, and hopefully we land one of those wildcards. Toronto baseball fans are dying for some meaningful home baseball games.

    The Rays by far do.
    1. Price
    2. Shields
    3. Hellickson
    4. Matt Moore
    5. Jeff Niemann
    6. Alex Cobb
    7. Chris Archer
Romero is absolutely horrible by the way. He got crushed last year. Johnson and Morrow good, but how good will Johnson do in the AL East?

Romero is horrible because he had a bad season? Seems legit headslap. He was injured last year and just didn't pitch well, that by no means makes him horrible.

Again, I wasn't saying the Jays had the best staff in the majors, but we have gone from probably the worst staff in the majors last year to at least decent.

Plus our hitting is much better than yours. Jays will finish ahead of the Rays this year for sure.

EDIT: The year before last Romero went 15-11 over 225 innings. Had a 2.92 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and 178 K's. That's horrible. LULZZZZZ

We'll just have to disagree on what you just acquired. Go look at Beurhles stats (in his prime years) vs and at the AL east. He is a soft tosser and will get his tits ripped off in the East. Johnson is injury prone and was 2-8 with an Era just under 5.00 outside of his new park. His velo was down close to 1.5 MPH last year also. I just don't buy the hype on this trade from the Jays point of view. Way to many injury risks for me and I question how Buerhle will be in the East.

No way they finish better than the Rays. Evan is back healthy, we will most likely get Justin Upton. If not someone like Youk orAJ Persynski to help. We are going to trade some pitching to get hitting. Management knows our window is getting tighter. Dont get so offensive bro. Maybe Romero just had an off the wall terrible year or maybe he is 2 year wonder like Ubaldo Jimenez.

Buerhle is our 4th starter at best dude. He can get fvcking shelled all year for all I care, he's probably the least important part of the deal considering the amount of young legit arms the Jays have in our system.

Johnson was in his first year back from significant injury. It's likely he was just battling back to form, he will have a better year than last for sure.

Reyes is a stud when healthy, and his injury woes are overplayed IMO.

I'm not getting offended just laughing at your idiocy. Romero was a prime pitching prospect all the way through, and pitched with a frigged arm last year. He might not be that pitcher he was 2 years ago, but he's a very good arm for sure.

Sig bet on who finishes better next year?

Absolutely, i shouldnt have said he was horrible. He had a horrible season and Im interested to see if he can rebound. The Jays are definitely better Offensively. Im curious if Edwin Encarcion will hit like he did last year (fantasy purposes). Our staff is sick and I think if we can add a few bats we will go places next year. I think its our year. Whats funny is the Yankees and Sox are at the bottom looking up in my opinion.

Yeh Yanks and Sox are screwed. And me too on Edwin, he just got paid so it will be really interesting to see his season this year.

Any way you slice it, the AL East is going to be some awesome baseball to watch this year. The best division in baseball just continues to get better.

Toughest Division in all of sports. Glad the Rays are a part of it. Im curious to see if the O's pitching staff can repeat. I have a feeling they might not do as well next year.
