I have to say, I'm not at all excited about this. I think the Big Ten should either hold steady or go after some major players. I'm not sure Rutgers or Maryland fit that bill.

Here's Pat Forde's story from Yahoo! He's saying an announcement could come as early as this week.

I guess the one positive that could come from this is that the divisions could get fixed. There's no reason at all the Iowa and Wisconsin should play only 4 out of every 10 years on average.

Smart move IMO. You get two giant markets and decent schools with academics that the B1G wants.

Great move for Maryland. They are hurting for money, and the B1G provides the most money out of all BCS conferences. Also, they need to get out fast before that ridiculous $50 Million buyout goes into effect. Maryland voted against the buyout, so that helps their case if the AcC tries to enforce it.

Maryland won't pay $50 million. That buyout didn't go into effect immediately, and Maryland voted against it. They will fight it, and it won't hold up in court since they were against it from the beginning and was looking for a way out the whole time. ACC will try to make them pay it, but Maryland will get out for much less.

No, it did not go into effect immediately. Summer of 2013 is when it goes into effect officially. ACC will still try to enforce it though. FSU, Clemson, and GT voted against it as well, FWIW.
