Maryland really needs the BIG10

Maryland,Dc is a Redskins town. With wizards, Maryland basketball, Orioles, Nat's, Caps. So it's very difficult for Maryland football to get attention and all that. But it's not impossible. Yes its a challenge, but it's something Maryland knows we have a ceiling. And that's winning acc titles. And if college football gets a playoff system then you never know. Yes am 100% drinking the Terps Kool-Aid.

    Georgetown as well.

Whenever I go around DC I say, man so much Terp love in this city. Almost overwhelming. Around every corner is another group of kids decked out in Terp gear or a banner hanging from a window. Young kids grow up telling tales of watching the great and legendary games the Terps engaged in over their glorious history at Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium. Nothing says big time collage football like a field named after a bank.

And don't even get me started on the kinds of amazing Collage Park is! Swag city. You can Green line it from your house. They got an IKEA pretty close by! SWAG!

Maybe one day you will realize Washington DC is not in the state of Maryland.

That's cool, Illinois just put out a bunch of NFL draftees, doesn't mean they aren't a bad team and will be good in the future. Good and fun school? Care to elaborate?

its a very good school thats also known for their parties. sounds good to me!

As far as fans go, yep.

DC is a redskins city with about 6 other choices besides Maryland football to get excited about. Big programs own an area. Maryland football will never be number 1 in it's area. The fact that the region produces so much talent almost guarantees you be good. That you haven't been more dominate is a massive indictment of both your school and coaches.

  • Let me say it like this. Wisconsin the State does not produce enough D1 talent to be competitive. We have to leave the area, often far out of the area. One thing we do is recruit second tier Florida kids. Out coaches have to fly for 3 hours to get to the kids, then try to convince them that it's not that cold or that far, that the culture and racial make up are different, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. That their parents and friends probably won't get to see them play. This is all difficult, but we do get some of the kids we want.

Maryland has to rent a Zip car and drive in a 20 mile circle to convince kids to stay where they are and they would make a very good D1 roster. That they haven't been able to do this year in and year out is all you need to know about Maryland Football.

I know this is a known issue, as many of my U of Maryland friends and co-workers complain about it all the time. I don't know what the solution is except win for 20 years so the local fans love you.

Totally understand that, but me as a person who loves college football over NFL, NBA,hockey, baseball. Has my dream, and that dream is for Maryland football to win the acc title. Anything over that is extra.

y'all screwed up not going after leach when you had the chance. he'd have been awesome in college park.

Agree. Edsall is a very good coach and might work out great, but Leach would have been a homerun. Big mistake IMO.

UMD is on the B10's short list. Unfortunately, it's not at the top of that list and the B10 is not going to expand any further unless it's a homerun move. UMD's best chance is to be the partner school the B10 adds along with ND. You have excellent TV markets and would fit very well academically and culturally, but you are competing with UVA, UNC, Duke, Syracuse, BC, GT and Miami. They all have pros and cons (and FWIW my info right now is UNC, Duke and UVA top the list, in that order), but if UMD wants to join the B10 they need to get their FB program on track ASAP and hope the other options are a "no go" for one reason or another.

In the event another round of expansion occurs and ND turns the B10 down again (i.e. ND heads to another conference or stays independent), I actually could see the B10 adding two of UNC/Duke//UVA/Syracuse/BC/GT/Miami. But the numbers have to work and improving your FB is by far the easiest way to make the numbers look better. In fact, if Edsall can do what he did at UConn at UMD, UND should move up everyone's wish lists very quickly.

Exactly. So take it from me. I was actually referring to Maryland ever joining the Big Ten.
