I have an idea. PSU takes down the statue and ND fires its coach, AD and president for doing exactly the same thing - covering up sexual assault allegations to protect the program.

Should Michigan get rid of their hospital as well?

Penn State scandal spurred Michigan to report old sex allegations

The Jerry Sandusky case at Penn State has inspired a raft of schools to reexamine how they report sex crimes, notably the University of Michigan.

again, wtf? how is this in any way, shape, or form remotely similar?

the hof isn't an institution of higher learning and oj isn't the face of pro football the way joe pa is the face of penn state. the best comparison w/ oj is usc and they have removed all the simpson stuff.

Football (both college and pro) has no problem honoring a man who had achievements in the game, despite what he did off the field (and was convicted of in civil court). Sound familiar?

For what? Reporting an employee who had child porn pictures on his computer? If that's the case, then pretty much every university and institution in this country will have to be shut down. Well, except for one difference ... we actually reported it.

I'm not going to bother getting into this, but there's no evidence that football was their priority. That's besides the point, though.

There's a lot of things in this world that "wouldn't be so bad" to do. Like donating the money to a charity instead of flying a stupid plane around threatening to commit a crime if people don't do what you want immediately.

I hate to repeat myself, but let me know when OJ Simpson is removed from the HOF. Then we'll talk about taking down the statue. For now I think the statue is a very low priority item.

    fingergun WHAAAAAT......

    Football was not thier priority??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!

    Two facts:

    1. Spanier, Paterno, Curley and Shultz decided not remove Sandusky or report rape to the police for fear of Bad Press.....

    2. Spanier and Paterno went after Curtis Enis's sports agent Jeff Nalley, basically asking police to press charges and going as far as spreading the word across the NCAA not to allow this guy on any campus - thus hurting his career because PSU was faced with NCAA issues with Enis accepting gifts that would Hurt the Football program.

EVERYTHING that was done in the Sandusky coverup was to protect the revenue and image of the football program....

How can you sit in church or look at your family with this denial.......

Graham Spanier said agent in Curtis Enis incident 'fooled around' with Penn State's integrity

In 1998 the Penn State president sent his agents to convince the district attorneys of Dauphin and Cumberland counties to press charges.

Right, I'm sorry. I forgot I was speaking with a PSU fan with a 409 banner still flying high. You folks have certainly been the pinnacle of rational thought throughout this process.

I have no problem with rational discussion. What have I said that's irrational? Was it when I said we should focus on the victims instead of some stupid statue? Yeah, that must have been it.

    Holy leaps in logic, Batman.

It's possible those four covered it up due to bad press. But where in their emails did they mention the football program? Feel free to point it out. I'll wait.

What on EARTH does that second point have anything to do with Sandusky? Oh my gosh, you mean they didn't want an agent giving one of the players illegal benefits??? Well, that proves it. I guess if any institution tells agents to stay away from players, that means that they cover up everything for the benefit of the football program.

    Did you read the story?

"She told a supervisor, who then told another supervisor, who told another official and so on and so on, until at least eight Michigan employees knew about the child porn allegations.

After a series of misunderstandings and confusion over who was responsible for the case — and a lack of clear evidence beyond the woman’s allegation — no one reported Jenson to the police."

"...the first hospital supervisor who had heard about Jenson started raising a question: Why hadn’t anything happened to Jenson?"

"...the Department of Education has been looking into whether the university violated federal law requiring them do so..."

" 'The matter was not referred to general university officials or outside agencies. Medical schools, housed on university campuses, are powerful and isolated fiefdoms.' "

I applaud the people who finally did band together and report him. I would hope everyone gets reported from here on out.

again (again), the hof is not an institution of higher learning and oj simpson is not the face of that institution. oj had also been out of football for YEARS when he committed his crime. joe pa committed his while he was head coach.

so no. doesn't sound familiar at all.

Keep on keeping on with your smokescreen of the OP. That DR, if he is guilty, should be neutered and locked up in general population. He was also 1 of hundreds, maybe even more. Joe was the top of the totem pole at psu and had been for a long time. Nice comparison though

    1) What does it matter if it's an institution of higher learning? The Hall of Fame is a national symbol of celebration of football greats. They have statues (or busts, really). PSU also has a celebration of their football greats.

    2) What crime was Joe convicted of again?

    3) Why does it matter if it happened WHILE they were player/HC compared to after? The issue that I see is that people have a problem with Joe as a person, and thus want any recognition of him, whether it relates to humanity or football, removed. So should we apply the same standard to OJ?

I did see a thread asking if Paterno should be removed from the CBF HOF. I didn't read it, but I'm guessing the conclusion was the same as that regarding the statue. I wonder if anyone mentioned OJ in that thread.

OJ was held responsible in a wrongful death suit. That's not the same "beyond a reasonable doubt" standard as required in a criminal trial, but it's a higher standard than anything in the Freeh Report which basically was just a bunch of lawyers hired to do an investigation and write a report with their opinions. It's certainly a higher standard than most people have applied to Joe Paterno, who was not even charged with a crime by the Attorney General let alone convicted. If you are going to deem JoePa guilty based on the Freeh Report, which carries zero legal value, you have to deem OJ guilty based on the jury's findings in the wrongful death case. In the latter, at least there was a court, rules of evidence, rules of procedure, witnesses and, oh yeah, an impartial jury that wasn't being paid $6.5 million by one of the interested parties.

2 "Facts" that aren't facts at all. I expected more from an ND grad (I assume too much perhaps). 1. Paterno dgaf about bad press, and I'm not sure there would have been that much bad press if it was reported right away (effing morons). 2. I like how you stuck Paterno's name in there even though the whole issue was pursued by Spanier, very cute.

About church, not everyone goes to church. Still those in the Catholic church (myself included) should be careful to throw stones. Glass houses/churches don't withstand that very well.

I'm also surprised you didn't respond to the attack at your own schools scandal? No response? I guess what the one football player texted that girl (the one they raped and later committed suicide) was right. "Don't mess with the football team." Very nice ND.

His death also doesn't change the fact that he's never been charged let alone convicted of anything. You don't get to just skip that part and automatically assume guilt because he is dead.
