And we remember who tips us and who doesnt.

5 off of 80 does not constitute a good tip. 5 dollars is not a universal good tip. IT'S BY PERCENTAGE. STUPID REDNECKS.

  • 20% or higher? That's ridiculous.

Look, don't get me wrong. I tip at least 15%... usually 18%+. But if the server ignores me or gets my food wrong they're getting 10% if they're lucky.

Higher than 20%? Not gonna happen. It's your JOB to serve your customers well. To expect me to pay over 20% isn't realistic.

Well, I guess I always tip $1 on every drink... Even if it's $2.50. So that's over 20% lol.

Agree completely. If I don't see my waiter between dropping the food off and getting the check, then they are not getting a good tip. I shouldn't have to ask for a refill. If they visit at least once while im eating then I'll do roughly 20%. If they visit multiple times then I'll go higher. I'm not required to pay you to do your job. It's a dick move not to, but I pay for the service I receive. If I don't receive good service I don't pay 20% just to pay it.

Absolutely. If spit is the worst you get in your food there, consider yourself blessed.

As far as tipping: unless you are a stellar waiter/waitress, you get 20%. If you gave bad service, you get less. I consider my tip as two fold: it helps you understand what better service would pay you and it helps you decide if food service is an industry in which you should continue working. I have friends who manage in the food service industry and they follow the same rules.

I have very rarely been rude to a waiter or waitress. I know their job isn't easy. If I see a person who I know is struggling (just to make ends meet), I will give them extra. I don't mind helping anyone. I do mind someone who provides bad service and I will not reward them for such service.

  • I waited tables for 5 years. Fun gig and you can make some serious money but there are a lot of asshats out there who are rude and cheap. Call me racist but most of them are "Canadians". If you work in the restaurant or did before you know what I mean. They don't tip and are demanding and constantly wanting free things by complaining and sending things back. What I found about them is they follow the "$1/person at the table" tip no matter how much their tab is generally unless you grat them. Then they complain about the grat most times and you have to take it off.

The rest of them are redneck hillbillies who don't think about the consequences of ordering appetizers, drinks, dinner and deserts (the perfect meal to a waiter). Once they get the check they freak out and when you walk away after dropping their payment down (card or change), they quickly get the hell out of there and leave you with a terrible tip. These are the people who can't afford to go out to eat yet they do to impress someone.

People fit into stereotypes really easy and working in the restaurant business, you see how true they really are.

Most people I waited on were pretty decent, some great and some terrible. I would occasionally get less than 10% tip from terrible customers but you knew who would tip and who didn't so you just didn't work hard for them after a while. Most times I would get 18-25% tips because I generally like people and can have fun with most anyone. Sometimes I would get the 30-50% tip ranges when I would handle large parties and especially on Sunday after church. Great time to make $200-$300.

I never messed with someone's food, just not my style. But I sure as hell would neglect a rude or demanding table to spend more time with those who were friendly and having a good time. Miserable people suck

Well, I guess I always tip $1 on every drink... Even if it's $2.50. So that's over 20% lol.

Server is not always at fault if food comes out wrong. Behind the scenes are chefs and guys who plate the food that are reading tickets who might miss a "sauce on the side" or "no onions". When a server is at full throttle on a Friday night and a chef overcooks a steak that's rang into the system properly, or a request is missing due to a kitchen oversight, you should not take that out on your waiter. You should let them know immediately the problem and see how they attend to it. Lots of times the waiter wants nothing more than for you to be happy and will get you a new item ASAP.

Also standard tipping is 20%. Everything costs more nowadays...gas isnt $1.50/gal anymore and 15% is cheap. Waiters also have to pay a percentage to bartenders/busboys/etc no matter how bad a customer tips. I agree if you get crap of service, then they don't deserve 20%. Most servers though are busting their butts to support spouse and kids, as well as go to college.

Times have changed. 15% used to be average.

I'd say 18% is considered average.

I also have to tip out 3% of my total sales at the end of the night. So if I sell 1000 dollars worth of food in the night, I have to give back 30 bucks of my tips.

Most of the time I laugh at the 10% tips when it's a 30 dollar tab. Are you really that cheap you can't put 2-3 extra dollars down for your server?

And IMO experience, rednecks are the worst. They'll tell you that you just gave them the best service they've had in awhile then compliment you to your manager. Then 5 off 50.

Canadians if you kiss their ass and make them laugh can pull through
