Medical-ish: Ever heard of something like this? [RE-Diagnosed]

  • So last Monday, had blood work done. Today, they call and leave me a voicemail asking to call back so we can chat about results. Great.

After a few calls back and forth - I gave up for the day. We were just playing phone tag.

But then I got a call from the neurologist they referred me to. They're bumping my appointment. From January 4th. To tomorrow.

Little buggers are doing a damn good job making me wonder what the hell is going on. lol

  • Got a diagnosis. Benign Essential Tremors.

It's a mild neurological condition from mutated genetics. Didn't know until now, but it runs in my mom's family. My Great Great Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and Great Aunt all had it. I've seen it first hand in my Great Aunt without realizing what it was. In her later years, she shook pretty bad and struggled to speak. However, she chose to not take the medicine. With a once a day pill, the tremors should lessen. There isn't a cure, but it can be dealt with.

Apparently it isn't too common this early in age - but can be brought on by.. Well, the stress of college.

All in all, nothing serious - as expected - just gonna have my one a day pill for the foreseeable future.

I'm glad to hear it wasn't something more serious. Good luck.

  • Back in college my thumb started going numb every night when I would lay down. I thought it was from too much partying. The Dr's thought it was MS. They did an MRI and it came up normal. They told me it was just something that happens to some people when you get older. It still happens to me sometimes even now. Drives me nuts because I can't sleep with it like that.

Anyway, glad to hear your issue isn't serious either.

  • Bump.

    Wasn't Benign Essential Tremors.

Been about 14 months since this all began. Last Tuesday, went in for an EMG (they shocked my arm to check for nerve damage). That was negative. Doc made two suggestions: Tremor specialist and an MRI "for the sake of thoroughness."

Wish he'd been "thorough" a while back.

Found a benign tumor on my cerebellum (which largely controls motor function). Met with a neurosurgeon today -- Going to have surgery on Monday.

Moral of the story: Go to the doctor when something's wrong. lol I'm lucky -- This is benign and in a great spot for removal. But definitely could've been worse and my reluctance to go to the doctor certainly didn't help anything. Don't be a douche like me, go see a doctor.
