Melvin Gordon - Top RB in country next year?

  • I honestly think so. This dude is just built like Adrian Peterson and has that 4.4 speed. He was moving piles last year and just got bigger. #25 in the pic.

He had almost 700 yards and 10 yards per carry last season. I think he could do 2000 all purpose yards next year and 6 yards per carry.

  • I know you're trolling but it's Fournette and no one else is close.

Edit..... thought he was talking about HS.

Nah man, this is serious. He is going to open a lot of eyes this year. Not sure why this would be considered a troll when he had over 10 yards per carry last year. I seriously think he wins the Doak Walker next year. Who's Fournette? Never heard of him

My bad, thought you were talking about HS football.

I really have no idea but I expect Yeldon and Hill will both have 1200-1500 yard seasons with tons of TDs.

If he gets to play against teams like UTEP (97th in rush defense), Purdue (79), Nebraska (92), and Indiana (119) all season, he could have a decent year.

The problem is that in the other 10 games, outside of 4 games against that group of run stoppers, he had 117 yards on 30 carries (3.9 per).

I know it's the B1G and run defense isn't quite your thing up there, but he will eventually face better run defenses one day I am sure.

  • lol @ Wisconsin. We have 4 RBs that are better than that chode.

  • We were high on Melvin out of high school. Had him the No. 6 RB prospect in the country. 247Composite had him No. 18. Would not surprise me if he was outstanding this season.

Wisconsin's strength program is one of the best in the country. They also do a good job of showing before and after photos to recruits when they visit campus.

MSU actually plays run defense and held Wisconsin to 0.5 YPC.

Sorry. Most of us Bama fans just don't think much of the run defense played once you get North of the Mason-Dixon Line.

Averaging 250+ on the ground against MSU, Michigan, and ND the last few years kind of makes you think about things differently.

    BetterOff

  • Let me know when he is 6'3" 245 with 4.45 speed. *cough Derrick Henry cough*

But seriously you are the only person who has heard of that guy. Yeldon, Gurley, and Hill are 3 just from the SEC that could be the best in the nation.

He could end up being overrated like Montee Ball for all we know.

You guys only scored, what, 6 TDs on us back in 2010? That's fairly decent run D isn't it? lol

Although we did hold UGA to 51 yards on 39 carries last year. That was fun.

    Macks

  • If Nebraska and Wisconsin make it to the Big Ten Title Game, he'll probably run for 456 yards with 11 TDs against us. Ya know. Based on last year's game.

huh? Only one thats heard of him? Maybe you should have watched the Big Ten Championship. Over 200 yards on 9 carries. He was a top recruit. Watch his senior film. Like JC said, its among the best out there. And from there he has filed out and kept his speed.

  • Highlights from his freshman year last year. Once again 10 yards per carry last year. Skip to 11:15. I tried putting it at that time but guess the site doesnt allow that.

    Play

Montee Ball, James White, Melvin Gordon 20...

Montee Ball Highlights start at 0:11 James White Highlights start at 7:42 Melvin Gordon Highlights start at 11:15 In 2012, three Wisconsin running backs showed the nation why Wisconsin could (or should) be referred to as "Running back-U". Senior Montee Ball, Junior James White, and rsFreshman Melvin Gordon together accounted for over 3,500 yards, averaging 6 yards per carry, and scoring 39 touchdowns. They were, for all intents and purposes, most of Wisconsin's offense that season. And what a memorable season it was, both for an unusually troublesome and slow start, as well as for the rushing explosion which happened later. Montee Ball, the leader of the group, surprised many by returning to Madison after a historic 2011 campaign. Despite suffering an off-season attack & concussion, he led the unit in yards and touchdowns, on his way to becoming the NCAA's All-Time touchdown king, one of several records he holds. He was a unanimous First-Team All-American selection by numerous publications, as well as the Doak Walker Award winner for being the nation's best running back. On the other side, James and Melvin both displayed greatness in their own right, most often with big-play ability and speed. All together they were a fearsome threesome for opponents, and one which Badger fans enjoyed watching all season. Their success was due in large part to the play of their offensive line as well as their coaching by Thomas Hammock. Photos used in this video are courtesy of Neil Ament.

First of all, you couldn't pay me to watch the Big10 championship. Secondly, 200 yards on 9 carries in the Big10 is like 5 carries for 40 yards in the SEC.
